over 100 and we've delivered over 1800 emails and letters to the Senate in=20
the last three days.=20
=20
But only 15 from Ohio.
=20
Please help. Write in yourself and forward this to everyone you can think o=

RE: URGENT Action Needed: Please contact your Senators=20
(we must act before April 1st) =20
=20

On National Fragile X Foundation Advocacy Day February 27th and 28th, nearl=
y=20
100 advocates from more than 26 states traveled to Washington to raise=20
awareness and attention to the need for increased funding and resources for=
=20
Fragile X. NOW YOU CAN JOIN IN THIS EFFORT. Please help us to build on the=
se=20
efforts by taking just a few moments to e-mail your Senators today in suppo=
rt of=20
this  year's requests.=20
As in recent years, federal funds are again tight and Congress is=20
increasingly strained to deliver additional funding to Fragile X research.=20=
 As a=20
result, it is even more important than ever that Members of Congress hear f=
rom you,=20
as constituents and as advocates. Nothing motivates a Member of Congress=20
more than hearing directly from YOU! =20
We are asking Congress to include provisions specific to Fragile X funding=20
in the Fiscal Year 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services appropriations=20
legislation, which funds the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers f=
or=20
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Health Resources and Services=20
Administration (HRSA). This year, our main requests are that Congress:=20
1) Provide an additional $3 million to the CDC to support the agency's=20
current public health initiative focused on Fragile X, and devote additiona=
l=20
funding to explore and pursue other CDC priorities including the creation o=
f a=20
National Fragile X Registry that would impact the Fragile X community;=20
2) Include report language requesting that the NIH enhance its efforts=20
across its Institutes related to Fragile X syndrome, Fragile X-associated t=
remor=20
ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) and Fragile X-associated Premature Ovarian Failure=20
(POF); and=20
3) Provide $5 million for the SPRANS initiative within HRSA to strengthen=20
states=E2=80=99 heritable disorders newborn screening programs.=20
How  It Works=20
To make it easier for other Members of Congress to support the requests to=20
the Appropriations Subcommittee, Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Chuck =20
Hagel (R-NE) are once again circulating a letter to the Labor, Health and H=
uman=20
Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee with the requests for =20
Fragile X funding provisions, that other Members of Congress can sign onto.=
 =20
Members of Congress have until April 1st to join this letter. We are asking=
 you=20
to e-mail your Senators to encourage them to add their name to these letter=
s=20
before it is sent to the Senate Subcommittee. The more support we solidify=
, =20
the more powerful we will be in moving the Appropriations Subcommittee to =20
support our requests with respect to the NIH, CDC, and HRSA. Increasing the=20
signatories to this letter is the single most important request we will mak=
e of=20
you this year. Please take the time to follow the simple steps below. =20
This request is quick and simple. From start to finish, this request shoul=
d=20
 take less than 2 minutes of your time. If you have already responded to a=
=20
previous alert, please take action again=E2=80=94persistent action will lea=
d to =20
success.
Please make the time this week =E2=80=93 today if you can=E2=80=93 to person=
alize our  draft=20
e-mail to your Senators asking them to sign onto the Hagel/ Stabenow Senate=
=20
letter to the Appropriations Subcommittee in support of increased funding f=
or=20
Fragile X. (If your Senator is an Appropriator =E2=80=93 which will be ide=
ntified=20
by our e-mail system =E2=80=93 you will be sending a letter asking for thei=
r support=20
of these requests when the letter comes before their committee). =20
Just click on the following link and follow the simple instructions to=20
generate all of these emails. The process should take no more than a coupl=
e of=20
minutes and will make a big difference. =20

to as many as you can. No matter where they live in the U.S. our system wi=

OHIO advocates- we need your help!

So far only 15 advocates from Ohio have written in. Other states are already=
 over 100 and we've delivered over 1800 emails and letters to the Senate in=20=
the last three days.=20

But only 15 from Ohio.

Please help. Write in yourself and forward this to everyone you can think of=
 from your address books. The whole process only takes 2 minutes.

Thanks!

Jeffrey

From: National Fragile X Foundation Public Policy Committee

Date:               March 20, 2007

RE: URGENT Action Needed: Please contact your Senators

                        (we must act before April 1st) =20

 On National Fragile X Foundation Advocacy Day February 27th and 28th, nearl=
y 100 advocates from more than 26 states traveled to Washington to raise awa=
reness and attention to the need for increased funding and resources for Fra=
gile X. NOW YOU CAN JOIN IN THIS EFFORT. Please help us to build on these e=
fforts by taking just a few moments to e-mail your Senators today in support=
 of this year's requests.

As in recent years, federal funds are again tight and Congress is increasing=
ly strained to deliver additional funding to Fragile X research. As a resul=
t, it is even more important than ever that Members of Congress hear from yo=
u, as constituents and as advocates. Nothing motivates a Member of Congress=
 more than hearing directly from YOU! =20

We are asking Congress to include provisions specific to Fragile X funding i=
n the Fiscal Year 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services appropriations legis=
lation, which funds the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Dis=
ease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Health Resources and Services Administ=
ration (HRSA). This year, our main requests are that Congress:

1) Provide an additional $3 million to the CDC to support the agency's curre=
nt public health initiative focused on Fragile X, and devote additional fund=
ing to explore and pursue other CDC priorities including the creation of a N=
ational Fragile X Registry that would impact the Fragile X community;

2) Include report language requesting that the NIH enhance its efforts acros=
s its Institutes related to Fragile X syndrome, Fragile X-associated tremor=20=
ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) and Fragile X-associated Premature Ovarian Failure (=
POF); and

3) Provide $5 million for the SPRANS initiative within HRSA to strengthen st=
ates' heritable disorders newborn screening programs.

How It Works

To make it easier for other Members of Congress to support the requests to t=
he Appropriations Subcommittee, Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Chuck Ha=
gel (R-NE) are once again circulating a letter to the Labor, Health and Huma=
n Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee with the requests for=20=
Fragile X funding provisions, that other Members of Congress can sign onto.=20=
 Members of Congress have until April 1st to join this letter. We are asking=
 you to e-mail your Senators to encourage them to add their name to these le=
tters before it is sent to the Senate Subcommittee. The more support we sol=
idify, the more powerful we will be in moving the Appropriations Subcommitte=
e to support our requests with respect to the NIH, CDC, and HRSA. Increasing=
 the signatories to this letter is the single most important request we will=
 make of you this year. Please take the time to follow the simple steps bel=
ow. =20

This request is quick and simple. From start to finish, this request should=
 take less than 2 minutes of your time. If you have already responded to a=20=
previous alert, please take action again-persistent action will lead to succ=
ess.

Please make the time this week - today if you can- to personalize our draft=20=
e-mail to your Senators asking them to sign onto the Hagel/ Stabenow Senate=20=
letter to the Appropriations Subcommittee in support of increased funding fo=
r Fragile X. (If your Senator is an Appropriator - which will be identified=
 by our e-mail system - you will be sending a letter asking for their suppor=
t of these requests when the letter comes before their committee).=20

Just click on the following link and follow the simple instructions to gener=
ate all of these emails. The process should take no more than a couple of m=
inutes and will make a big difference.=20

If you have any questions or need assistance in completing these letters, pl=
ease do not hesitate to contact: =20

Leah Howard at lmhoward at bakerd.com or 202-589-2806

THANK YOU for taking the time to help. We have the attention of Congress as=
 we never have before - and it's because of you. =20

***P.S. Please forward this email to family, friends and colleagues that can=
 join the effort. Please go through your address book and forward this email=
 to as many as you can. No matter where they live in the U.S. our system wil=
l select and deliver the right letters to their Senators.

If you live in PENNSYLVANIA or IOWA this is particularly important! We need=20=
to maximize the number of letters to Senators from these two states so pleas=
e forward this to all contacts in your address book.

Thank you.
