AREA HIGH SCHOOLS TO COMPETE AT IMPROV OLYMPICS
CLEVELAND, OH----Fifteen teams from Northeast Ohio high schools will
compete at the first-ever, Cleveland-area "Improv Olympics", to be held
from Noon to 6 PM on Sunday, April 29th, 2007, at The Cleveland Play
House (8500 Euclid Avenue).
The Improv Olympics is a partnership between the Education
Department of The Cleveland Play House and Kulture Kids, a non-profit
organization promoting arts and culture for and among Cleveland youth.
Judges include Great Lakes Theater Actor/Director Andrew May and
GLT's Education Coordinator Lisa Ortenzi, local director Fred
Sternfeld, Karamu Theater's Jimmie Woody, and Lipschtick Founder and
Director Jean Zarzour.
Teams (4 or 5 students each) include representatives from: Hathaway
Brown School, Hawken School, Cleveland Heights High School, Shaker
Heights High School, John Hay High School, John Adams High School, Lake
Catholic High School, Beachwood High School, Lake Ridge Academy,
Cleveland School of the Arts, Walsh Jesuit High School, Padua High
School and others.
A variety of improvisation events will ultimately lead to awarding
of Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals to the three top teams, as well as a
Best Overall Medal to one individual performer and other recognitions.
Each team has one adult sponsor (teacher or parent or both) who
will accompany the team that day and has prepared them during the past
few months through theater drills and other exercises.
