Lakewood, Ohio -Beck Center for the Arts is proud to present the
Cleveland area professional premiere of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning
musical, Passion in the Studio Theater, April 6 through May 6, 2007.=20

Directed by nationally acclaimed director, Victoria Bussert, Passion is
a complex love story that takes place in mid-19th century Italy.
Sondheim's distinctive musical style explores the passionate love affair
between a married woman and a soldier who, in turn, is loved obsessively
by an unattractive, sickly woman. He is torn between his passion for
one woman and his compassion for the other.

Based on the Italian film, Passione D'Amore, Passion is another
award-winning collaboration by the creative team of James Lapine and
Stephen Sondheim. The Broadway production won the 1994 Tony Awards for
Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book; as well as the Drama
Desk Awards for Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Music, Outstanding
Lyrics, and Outstanding Book for a Musical. =20

"Passion is an extraordinarily unique piece of musical theatre." said
Bussert, "It is thrilling to present the professional Cleveland
premiere of this musical with such talented artists." Passion features
Jared Leal* as the soldier, Giorgio; Jodi Dominick* as the married
woman, Clara; and Sandra Simon* as the sickly woman, Fosca; along with a
strong supporting cast including Beck Center's Artistic Director, Scott
Spence as Dr. Tambourri. Bussert commented, "I look forward to
directing this show with all acoustic sound in the intimate Studio
Theater at Beck Center. This promises to be a very special evening of
theatre." =20

Passion will be Musically Directed by Nancy Maier with Scenic and
Production Design by Russ Borski, a long-time collaborator with director
Bussert. Borski will also design the lighting and costumes for this
premiere. =20
