A Retrospective Exhibition 1941-2007

Lakewood, Ohio - In collaboration with the Cleveland Artists Foundation
(CAF), the Beck Center for the Arts presents A Retrospective Exhibition
by celebrated painter, Joseph B. O'Sickey. His extraordinary artwork
will be on display in two gallery spaces located in the Beck Center's
Main Building. The CAF Gallery will showcase O'Sickey's artwork from
April 13 through June 9. The Beck Center will exhibit his paintings in
the Jean Bulicek Galleria from April 20 through June 10. Both exhibits
are free and open to the public. For gallery hours, contact the Beck
Center at (216) 521-2540.

This exhibition, curated by William Busta, showcases O'Sickey's works
spanning seven decades. This retrospective exhibition includes sketches
of India and Africa from his years in the Army during the 1940s;
advertising and design work from the 1940's and 1950's; landscape,
still-life and garden paintings; and his recent work based on circus
themes.=20

            "This exhibition will be an eye-opener for fans and
collectors familiar with O'Sickey's beautiful garden paintings,
revealing new dimensions of the artist," says Sharon Dean, Executive
Director of the Cleveland Artists Foundation. "In his work, you'll see=20

an artist who witnessed everything from Impressionism to Cubism and Pop
art, and the then-new profession of graphic and commercial art. His
work not only masters those movements, but builds upon them."

            Born in Detroit in 1918, O'Sickey grew up in Cleveland. He
graduated from the Cleveland School of Art (now the Cleveland Institute
of Art) and studied informally at the graduate level. He continued to
develop his work through his 20s and was strongly influenced by
post-impressionism. Throughout his career, O'Sickey taught at several
area universities and exhibited his paintings at many notable
exhibitions including the May Shows at the Cleveland Museum of Art. His
work is included in collections at the Cleveland Museum of Art,
Cleveland Public Library, Butler Institute of American Art, and other
regional museums.

            An informal reception with Joseph B. O'Sickey will be hosted
by the Beck Center on Friday, April 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the
Daniels Lounge. An opening reception with the artist will be held on
Sunday, April 22 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the CAF Gallery at the Beck
Center. The Beck Center for the Arts is located at 17801 Detroit Avenue
in Lakewood, just ten minutes west of downtown Cleveland. Convenient
onsite parking is available.
