LINCOLNESQUE: Not Politics As Usual
Anchors FusionFest =9207 and closes CPH=92s 91st season=20

CLEVELAND =96 The Cleveland Play House closes its successful 2006-2007 =
season
with the political satire, Lincolnesque. An exploration of the inner
workings of Washington campaign politics, Lincolnesque, written by
Washington resident John Strand, opens for previews on Friday, April 27 =
and
runs through Sunday, May 20, 2007 in the Drury Theatre.

Lincolnesque focuses on two brothers=97a speech writer for a faltering
congressional campaign, and a psychiatric outpatient who believes he is
Abraham Lincoln. The congressman=92s campaign begins to turn around =
when, with
the aid of Lincoln=92s speeches, it invokes the =
unthinkable=97principles.
Lincolnesque is one of the anchor events of The Cleveland Play House=92s
FusionFest 2007, the area=92s only annual multidisciplinary performing =
arts
festival that brings together national talent and Cleveland artists and =
arts
organizations.=20

=93Lincolnesque is that rare theatre species--the political comedy. It =
harkens
back to the witty, high-concept comedies of Preston Sturges and Frank
Capra,=94 says Michael Bloom, the play=92s director and CPH Artistic =
Director.
=93And in age in which political operatives see their party=92s =
objectives and
the nation=92s as one and the same, it is startlingly relevant.=94

Lincolnesque received its world premiere at the Old Globe Theatre in San
Diego in August 2006.

ABOUT LINCOLNESQUE
Leo is a struggling speechwriter on Capitol Hill. His brother Francis =
was
once a high-powered political consultant but is now a psychiatric =
outpatient
who believes he is President Abraham Lincoln.=20

Leo=92s current speechwriting assignment is for the re-election campaign =
of
Congressman Dave Carpenter, an uninspiring career politician known for
consistency and boring suits. Desperate for ideas to craft a new image =
for
Congressman Carpenter, Leo enlists Francis to help him incorporate key
phrases and ideals originally spoken by Lincoln.=20
