      WIZARDS OF
ACOUSTIC GUITAR
  Sunday, May 6 -- 7:00 PM
R.J. Lannon from "New Age Reporter" said this about Brian Henke's latest CD
"I can remember the date, time, and place when I first heard Brian Henke's new album "Nature of Light." I can also recall that I listened to all 21 tracks without stopping. Yeah, 21 tracks of contemporary instrumental guitar works that held me captive like a lost thirsty soul in a deep well. Brian utilizes an exceptional sounding 6 string guitar, and an amazingly magical instrument, a 28 string Dreamcaster. The music shimmers with a radiance and energy that goes to the very core of the spirit. From sunrises to rainbows, to sunsets, Henke's conceptions of light are converted into sound and they are brilliant." "organic, mesmerizing and best of all, magic." Sage Satori from the Northcoast Voice magazine said "Finding words in our language, or any other to try to describe Brian's music is difficult, like trying to describe a soul connection with a lover. No matter what is said, the words don't seem to be enough. Beautiful, brilliant and amazing may come close to convey the
message. The energy and feeling can only be perceived from each listener's perspective" 2000 Finalist in the prestigious National Fingerstyle Championships in Winfield Kansas.
  Andy McKee
One of today's finest young guitarists, Candyrat recording artist, Andy McKee is hailed by many critics and musicians in the acoustic world as the most promising fingerstyle guitarist to arrive on the scene in some time. Over the last thirteen years, Andy has cited numerous influences from Metallica, to Bjork, to Don Ross, to Tchaikovsky, and has created a unique voice on the acoustic guitar by drawing from these inspirations. In the course of only four years, Andy has placed highly in a number of prestigious guitar competitions including 1st in his home state of Kansas, 2nd and 3rd in Canada and 3rd in the US National Fingerstyle Championships in Winfield Kansas. In recent years, Andy has begun touring internationally including performances in Taiwan, China, Japan, England and Belgium astounding audiences everywhere he goes. His video on youtube.com has had over a million views, which helped lead to a recent live performance and interview on NBC's "After Dark With Carson
Daley." Carson mentioned afterward that Andy was the best musical guest he had ever had! World renowned, fingerstyle guitarist, fellow Candyrat recording artist, and the only two time National Fingerstyle guitar champion, Don Ross, had this to say about Andy: "In my humble opinion, Andy is the most innovative and exciting fingerstyle guitarist to emerge in years. Still in his 20's, Andy has developed a mastery of the 6-string guitar and the harp guitar that leaves me speechless. I find myself listening to his tunes over and over again, discovering new nuances every time. He is the most textural player of the instrument since Michael Hedges, and he creates sonic architecture worthy of the great modern composers for any instrument."

          IRIS DeMENT
  Friday, May 11 -- 8:00 PM
One of the most celebrated country-folk performers of her day, singer/songwriter Iris Dement was born on January 5, 1961, in rural Paragould, AR, the youngest of 14 children. At the age of three, her devoutly religious family moved to California, where she grew up singing gospel music; during her teenaged years, however, she was first exposed to country, folk, and R&B, drawing influence from Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell. Upon graduating high school, she relocated to Kansas City to attend college.
After a series of jobs waitressing and typing, Dement first began composing songs at the age of 25. Honing her skills at open-mic nights, in 1988 she moved to Nashville, where she contacted producer Jim Rooney, who helped her land a record contract. Dement did not make her recording debut until 1992, when her independent label offering, Infamous Angel, won almost universal acclaim thanks to her pure, evocative vocal style and spare, heartfelt songcraft. Despite a complete lack of support from country radio, the record's word-of-mouth praise earned her a deal with Warner Bros., which reissued Infamous Angel in 1993 as well as its follow-up, 1994's stunning My Life. Her third LP, 1996's eclectic The Way I Should, marked a dramatic change not only in its more rock-influenced sound but also in its subject matter; where Dement's prior work was introspective and deeply personal, The Way I Should was fiercely political, tackling topics like sexual abuse, religion, government
policy, and Vietnam. In 1999, she collaborated with country man John Prine on his album, In Spite of Ourselves. Dement recorded four duets with Prine that earned her a Grammy nod the following year.

          An Acoustic Evening
With BO BICE
& Special Guest
GARY NICHOLS
  Sunday, May 20 -- 8:00 PM
Husky-voiced American Idol singing sensation Harold "Bo" Bice hailed from Helena, AL, and brought his Southern sensibility with him to the fourth season of Fox's long-running talent contest. Bice competed weekly against fellow rocker Constantine Maroulis, his long hair, bell bottoms, and drug rug tunics against Maroulis' biker jacket and stockpile of New York City swagger. Eventually Bice won out (to the shock of some Idol fans), and went all the way to the winner's circle where he was AI runner-up to corn silk Oklahoman Carrie Underwood. The following summer Bice participated in the usual post-Idol tour with his fellow contestants; he also endured the traditional pry into his past life, which had evidently included brushes with drug possession. In the meantime, the release date of his debut album was pushed back. Real Thing eventually arrived in December 2005. Produced by Clive Davis, it featured collaborations with rockers Chad Kroeger (Nickelback) and Richie Sambora,
as well as songwriting pros John Shanks and Max Martin. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

Gary Nichols may be country music's new "guitar slinger," but don't mistake him for a "tenderfoot" or a "greenhorn."
The hotshot instrumentalist, singing wonder and songwriting champ fits the classic definition of a "guitar slinger," but he's no novice. This is a role he was born to play.
Although still in his 20s, Gary Nichols has been rocking the clubs of Northern Alabama and Southern Tennessee for nearly a decade. And that's just his most recent musical history. This is a guy who was given a ukulele at age 11 months, who was warbling tunes at age 3, who won his first talent contest at age 5, who got his first paying music job and joined his first band at age 6, who played in honky-tonks at age 7, who was touring regionally at age 13, who performed in Nashville at age 17 and who had his first recording session at age 19.
