his/her work (slides or digital images on CD are acceptable). A sample
garbage can can be viewed in front of The Greater Stark Community Arts
Network/2nd April galerie (209 6th St. NW, Downtown Canton) and at
www.secondapril.org/garbagetoglory You will be judged on the =
professionalism
of your proposal as well as the overall design, so please keep this in =
mind

before you submit your proposal. Artist Name, Address, Phone Number and
email address (if available) must be present on all pages of the =
submission
or on the CD. All successful proposals will need to be functional as =
well as
professional in appearance. You will be judged on your

ability to complete the project as submitted. These garbage cans must be
able to be maintained efficiently over a period of years. Any
three-dimensional elements added to the cans must be permanent and be
affixed in a way that does not hinder maintenance. Overly ambitious
proposals will not be judged any more favorably than simple, clean and =
easy
to maintain designs.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:=20

A total of eight winners will be chosen to reproduce their proposals on =
a
Downtown Canton garbage can. All winners will be notified on or before =
June
5, 2007. Each winner will receive $600.00. $300.00 of that money will be
awarded in advance and $300.00 will be awarded upon completion of the
project. Prize money includes cost of supplies and there will be no
additional compensation for supply costs for the project. Projects must =
be
completed before July 15, 2007.

Stark County Story Quilts Project

Call to Visual Artists: The Stark County Story Quilts Project

The Stark County Story Quilts Project will be an adaptation of the works =
of
renowned artist Faith Ringgold. In a series of workshops held throughout
Stark County and at our educational space downtown, participants will =
learn
about the life and works of Faith Ringgold, an African American artist =
and
author who produced much of her work during the Civil Rights Movement. =
From
this perspective, workshop participants will then be asked to produce =
both a
written and visual history of their experiences in Stark County before,
during and after The Civil Rights Movement, using Faith Ringgold's =
"Story
Quilts" as a model. Upon completion, these "Stark County Story Quilts" =
will
then be assembled at our special exhibition space in Downtown Canton to =
then
be used as a learning tool for school groups, civic groups and other
organizations. Quilt panels will consist of both the literary and visual
elements of each personal history and will be assembled in time periods
based on the age of the participant, creating a timeline effect for the
exhibit. The ultimate goal of this project is to create a permanent =
history
of our community both created by and witnessed by its citizens through =
the
vocabulary of Art. For more information on participating in one of the
workshops or if you are interested in hosting a workshop at your =
location,
please call 2nd April at 330-451-0924 or email us at =
