Cleveland State University’s 2nd Shift Screenwriters will be holding
auditions for our first student film on June 23rd and 24th from 11:00am –
5:00 pm. They will be held in room 107 of the Music and Communication
Building, located at 2121 Euclid Avenue. Headshots, resumes, and a prepared
monologue no longer than 90 seconds are encouraged, but not required, and
each actor will be expected to do a cold reading of the script. Auditions
will last no longer than 15 minutes. Actors chosen for the film will
receive credit in the final project and a copy of the film for his or her
portfolio. The film will be shot on July 28th and 29th. Please call Rachel
Campbell at 440-567-5173 to schedule an audition time. Walk-ups will be
accommodated. Cleveland State University’s 2nd Shift Screenwriters are
seeking to create a professional quality film program at CSU and attempting
to expand professional independent filmmaking in the Cleveland area.

Characters:

KATHY: A younger-looking woman in her upper 20’s with long hair. She is
articulate and intelligent and speaks with a Creole accent. Kathy despises
her ex-husband and will do anything to stop him from maintaining joint
custody of their daughter, Tara. Kathy is very selfish and holds onto
grudges. She smokes cigarettes to hide her pain.

JOHN: A business professional in his lower 30’s. Although John’s job is a
major priority in his life, his daughter Tara means the world to him. He
would go through any obstacle to see her, including his relentless ex-wife.
His recent physical condition has caused John to be strong willed and stoic,
except when dealing with his ex-wife. As his condition gets better his
motivation and frustration increase. He will do anything to get back at his
ex-wife. This role requires physical comedy as well as a scene performed in
underwear.

TARA: An innocent little girl who just wants to find her doll, Samantha.
Tara really wants to see her father and likes to play with her toys. Unlike
most children, Tara is hardly naïve. She is smart and picks up on her
mother’s devious behavior.

HEATHER: A very attractive female in her upper 20’s, Heather has a crush on
John. Her contagious personality instantly attracts men. She does not get
upset easily and finds almost anything funny.
