  The V-Day Festival has opened!  There are some amazing things going on over the next two weeks! Step up and attend the upcoming events!
   
  V-Day|Until the Violence Stops: Northeast Ohio, a festival of theatre, spoken word, performance and community events to raise awareness for the issue of violence against women and girls, opened Sunday, June 17 with the first of three Marquee performances, Necessary Targets, a staged reading of Eve Ensler’s play about women and war.
   
  Akron Municipal Court Judge, Eve Belfance, spoke eloquently on the “ordinary heroes” she sees on a daily basis who are working to end violence against women and girls and how each of us have the ability and the responsibility to do our part in ending the violence against women and girls.
   
  V-Day: Until the Violence Stops Northeast Ohio is produced through a collaboration of Queen Bee Productions of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Women’s Network’s Women Central Project. Producing partners also include the Cleveland Indians; Northern Ohio Live magazine; Donna Rizor-Longfellow, UBS Financial and epitome magazine. Until the Violence Stops Northeast Ohio is also a recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Akron Community Foundation.

  Directed by Jacqi Loewy
  95% of women in prison are there because they have experienced violence in their own lives. Words From Prison will reveal the connection between women in prison and the violence that often brought them there. This event will bring forth voices of humor, fierceness and honesty written by women from prisons across the nation to then move forward toward healing, understanding, and change, ultimately impacting laws and the treatment of incarcerated women.

  The Zonta Club of Cleveland , an 85 year old organization of business executives and professionals dedicated to advancing the status of women through service, advocacy and the eradication of violence, has collaborated with Angela B. Wilkes, MA, PCC of Wilkes Mental Health Consultants of Beachwood, Ohio to develop a community resource brochure and forum on domestic violence.
   
  Mrs. Wilkes, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, has worked in the field of domestic violence since 1978 in Cincinnati and Greater Cleveland, providing community education, crisis intervention and counseling of survivors or spousal and sexual abuse.
   
  The Zonta Forum will provide information to family members, friends and individuals with concerns about domestic violence.
