Here are the minutes from June -- changes and additions welcome.

Minutes of Board of trustees Meeting
  June 14, 2007

Present: Sarah Gyorki, Nan Kennedy, Cindy Barber, Kathy Baker, Jennifer Malkin, Steve Manko, Dan Bode, Mary Greene, George Nemeth
Minutes of the April board meeting were approved as read.
Steve Manka was officially welcomed as the new chair.
George Nemeth was welcomed as a new trustee.
Financial and Building The Cleveland Foundation has approved a $15,000 grant for consultations with Janus Small. Those will be scheduled as soon as Janus is available – perhaps in August.
The after-school program’s expenses are almost fully reimbursed; $13,000 will be received shortly.
We have registered for CAC funding; the workshops take place in June, applications are due in August.
We hope to hold more family-friendly concerts, possibly with the OAC grant for neighborhood art events.
The next fundraiser is the Sneak Peek, on July 27. Volunteers: Steve, Jennifer Malkin, Mary Greene.
Hickman is ready with its donation of roofing materials; the free/cut-rate contractor is trying to fit us into his schedule.
Work can begin on the Bluebird as soon as we have $10-15,000 in hand; volunteers are ready.
Interest in the studios is building; no fresh contract have been signed but several are likely soon. The café’s rent is due to rise to $758 next month. The outrageous water bill has been settled, to our benefit. We are almost covering the mortgage (though not the insurance) with building income; and payroll is up to date through April.
Board members still have time to send WAF sponsor packages to their contacts.
The books are still too confused for audit. Nan will ask Cindy Szafraniec if she will clean them up.
Programs The Waf (July 28) will be preceded by Sneak Peek (July 26) and opening of Members’ Show (July 27). McKala Everett has volunteered to coordinate kids’ events at the WAF.
OAC-sponsored events in July will include a jazz concert and programs by the Kite Society and Bike Society. The Sand Sculpture Contest (July 15) will feature a new category for artists: $5 registration and a $500 prize. Family entries will be free as usual.
Art Camp The camp has hired John Krol, music director at Hawken Middle School, as director; Craig Brent Sullivan (who taught AC’s after-school classes this year, and also teaches at Art House and for Collinwood High); and Rachel Fichter (recent theatre arts grad with teaching experience. The program will focus ion the end-of-camp production, and will include visiting artists and an occasional field trip.
Space was hard to find this year; at the last minute, we made arrangements with Beachland Presbyterian church.
Sponsorships have brought in $2100. Neighborhood Connections has given us a $1700 grant for training the teachers’ aides and junior counselors. Registration has been very slow (we have suffered from the absence of the Sun Scoop, and the slowness of Cool Cleveland in running our PR), but is picking up; if we get the 40 we aim for, the camp will come very close to breaking even.
Volunteers Kathy Baker is looking for a co-chair to handle the recruitment of volunteers for special events; she will continue to manage the gallery and art camp.
Ways to find volunteers: contact CIA students; cultivate social networks (George will help here); Jennifer offered to recruit a NCB programmer to create a database.
Cindy proposed a rotating board member to work with Sarah on programs; feel free to sign up!
Board Retreat It would be useful to hold a retreat before the Janus Small consultations begin; Steve offered to send out a Wizard to determine if June 24 will work for a majority. George offered to videotape board interviews for archiving.

NEXT BOARD MEETING IS JULY 12, at Café Marika at 6:00 pm.
