Looking for something fun, musical and unusual this weekend?

I'll be joining folk musicians--both local and non--"folking around" =
this weekend at Hale Farm & Village's 32nd annual "Music in the Valley =
Folk Festival". The Festival is co-sponsored by the Western Reserve =
Historical Society (www.wrhs.org) and Folknet (www.folknet.org). =20

It'll be very informal as there are no stages or set line-ups. Stroll =
the grounds and check out the many musical acts (groups and soloists) =
who will be set up at various places throughout the Farm & Village, =
performing traditional and contemporary folk music on guitars, banjos, =
fiddles, autoharps, harmonicas...maybe even some spoons, washboards and =
who knows what else? (Feel free to join in, sing along, provide a beat, =
whatever!) =20

In addition to the farm with its crops and animals, you'll also discover =
a Civil War-time town vibrant with life, complete with period costumes, =
artisans and craftspeople. Here's a blurb from Hale Farm & Village's =
web site (www.wrhs.org/halefarm/default.asp): =20

Visit Wheatfield Village, a small Ohio town struggling with the impact =
of the War Between the States. Learn about the issues and events that =
have divided a nation. Talk to a mother whose son is about to enlist. =
Write a letter to a soldier on the front, and learn how national events =
affect the everyday life of those at home. Period crafts are made on =
the premises, with skilled artisans demonstrating glassblowing, =
blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, candlemaking and basketmaking. Farm =
animals are in residence as well, with a "stable" of horses, pigs, cows =
and sheep.

Below is the admission blurb from the Western Reserve Historical =
Society's website: =20

Music in the Valley Folkfest - Hale Farm & Village July 14th & 15th The =
32nd Annual celebration of folk and traditional American music, in =
partnership with Folknet, Northeast Ohio Folk & Traditional Music & =
Dance Society. Admission: Adults $14.50, Seniors $12.50, Children (age =
3-12) $7.50, under 3 and Members Free. For more information call (330) =
666-3711. Saturday 11a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday Noon-5p.m.

So join me at 2686 Oak Hill Road, Bath, Ohio this Saturday and Sunday, =
July 14 & 15. Bring the kids--or not! Either way, you'll have a blast =
while learning about life in 1800's Ohio. (And, yes, I'll take =
requests!)

Much love,
Diana
