CSU’s Dramatic Arts Program is pleased to announce its production of Whirligig by Mac Wellman is making a comeback this summer as part of Ingenuity Festival. A big hit last fall, Whirligig will appear in an outdoor alternative space in downtown Cleveland, July 20-22, 2007.

Whirligig follows the misadventures of a runaway, green haired, punk rocker chick who encounters a space alien in a Midwestern bus station. Things get interesting when they are visited by a mysterious bus driver and three versions of the girl's preppy, prom-queen-aspiring sister. The play features poetry slam dialogue, political tirades from the 80’s (which are somehow disturbingly familiar) and a surprise ending which is literally “out of this world”.

Holly Holsinger, fresh off her acclaimed appearances in Cleveland Public Theatre's Two-Headed and CSU Summer Repertory Theatre's Booth, directs Katelyn Cornelius (The Robber Bridegroom, CSU Summer Rep), Jason Dixon (Cleveland Playhouse, Antwone Fisher), Carly Garinger, Brian McNally (Our Town, Cleveland Public Theatre), Christine Miles (Robber Bridegroom), and Amber Pompeii.

Cleveland native Mac Wellman won the Lifetime Achievement Obie Award for his celebrated experimental narrative, absurdist sense of humor, and biting social/political content. His work has been performed at CPT, Yale Rep, Actor's Theatre of Louisville, and the Smithsonian and Whitney Museums.

July 20th, 21st, and 22nd
    8pm at 1720 Euclid Avenue.

Admission is included with your Ingenuity Festival ticket.
