of Music alumnus Ben Jaffe =9293, the band=92s bass player, directs the =20=

hall, which was

the lessons of

their music to the younger generation following in their footsteps. =20

Pianist Angela Hewitt is a phenomenal artist who has established an =20
illustrious career in the last few years, much of which has been =20
achieved through her superb, award-winning recordings for Hyperion. =20
Completed in 2005, her 11-year project to record all the major =20

=93one of the record glories of our age,=94 and has won her a huge =20
following. She has a vast repertoire ranging from Couperin to the =20
contemporary. Her discography includes CDs of Granados, Beethoven, =20
Rameau, Chabrier and Olivier Messiaen; the complete solo works of =20
Ravel; the complete Chopin Nocturnes and Impromptus; and three discs =20
devoted to the music of Couperin. Her recordings of the complete solo =20=

entered the billboard charts in the U.S. only weeks after their =20
release, and were named Record of the Month in Gramophone magazine. =20

Singer/songwriter Josh Ritter and violinist Hilary Hahn present a =20
unique program from

their ground-breaking joint 2007 summer tour. Conceived in the belief =20=

that music is meant to be relished regardless of title and form, this =20=

program of both original and traditional works=97previously performed =20=

at the Aspen, Eastern, Ravinia, and Verbier music festivals=97will =20
widen the perspective of both the artists and the audience. Ritter=92s =20=

performance will consist of his refreshing, intellectual songs, and =20
Hahn will perform the most celebrated works from the solo violin =20
repertoire. They will also perform together. This juxtaposition of =20
familiar material allows it to be experienced in an entirely new way. =20=

The goal, in the words of Hahn, is =93to foster a community accepting =20=

of all music and supportive of a broader artistic culture in the =20
future, exposing musicians, audience members and media alike to =20
hidden corners of creativity which they might not otherwise get to =20
discover.=94

At the age of 27, Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn is one =20
of the most compelling artists on the international concert circuit. =20
Renowned for her intellectual and emotional maturity, she was named =20
=93America=92s Best=94 young classical musician by Time magazine in =
2001. =20
She appears regularly with the world=92s great orchestras in Europe, =20
Asia, and North America.

Hailing from the unlikely small town of Moscow, Idaho, Oberlin =20
alumnus Josh Ritter =9199 crafts songs that are rare gifts of natural, =20=

intuitive beauty. The New York Times, Details magazine, USA Today, =20
and the Associated Press have scrambled to describe what makes his =20
music so stunning, invoking comparisons to a young Springsteen or =20
Leonard Cohen.
