Beck Center presents
the World Premiere of
Reflections
(Peggy Sings Leiber and Stoller)
September 14 - October 7, 2007
Mackey Main Stage
=20
Lakewood, Ohio - Beck Center proudly presents the world premiere of
Reflections (Peggy Sings Leiber and Stoller), featuring award-winning
actress and recording artist, Laura Theodore on the Mackey Main Stage,
September 14 through October 7, 2007.
This new Leiber and Stoller musical, which includes the brilliant songs
they recorded with Peggy Lee in the 60s and 70s, reveals her life story
through a multimedia extravaganza that combines film, narration, dance,
and song. It is a story of one women's struggle to rediscover herself
and her music in the 1960s, during the birth of rock and roll and a time
of social change. =20
In 1975, legendary songwriters Leiber and Stoller produced the album
"Mirrors," a musical masterpiece, which was later re-released in 2005 as
"Peggy Lee Sings Leiber & Stoller." This timeless collection of 15
songs written by this prolific team, includes well-known numbers like
"Kansas City," "I'm A Woman" and the legendary hit "Is That All There
Is." Reflections is a kaleidoscope of these beautiful love songs,
hilarious send-ups of Broadway and haunting tunes of days gone by. =20
Now for the first time, the critically acclaimed Laura Theodore brings
these remarkable songs to the stage. Guitarist Joe Beck, who worked
with Peggy Lee for many years, provides a first-person filmed narrative
with sweet, funny and poignant memories, while Theodore brings Leiber
and Stoller's music to life through the genius of her remarkable voice.
Reflections is directed and co-written by well-known Cleveland area
actor and director, Tom Fulton. "As a director, I have always looked
for plays that embrace life and are filled with characters that can rise
above adversity with their own kind of courage and capacity for
survival," remarked Fulton. "Reflections conveys one woman's ability to
just 'keep on dancing' in spite of some of the mean tricks life played
on her. A wonderful sense of humor and a real genius with song is what
kept her going and what Reflections is all about." Fulton and Theodore
have collaborated on the script for this world premiere. "Mounting this
production around Laura Theodore is the real gold ring. She knows this
music inside and out," commented Fulton.
Theodore is best known for the diversity of her musical and acting
careers. She has starred in countless theatrical productions including
the Off Broadway original cast production of Beehive and the world
premiere production of Love, Janis. An established jazz vocalist and
recording artist, she has produced six critically acclaimed CDs.
Theodore has made many guest appearances on national television.=20
