About the play:
=20
The Crucible is based upon the Salem Witch trials of 1692. The story
begins when 12-year-old Anne Putnam accuses others of having a
relationship with the devil. The result of these accusations was two
years of witch hunts and the deaths of 20 people. Although The Crucible
is based upon events of the 17th century, it is also an allegory of the
Communist scare of the 1950s.
