"Babies Having Babies" is a socially conscious play focusing on the plight
of teen pregnancy in today's society. Directed  by: Arien Hodges     

Karamu Performing Arts Theatre will hold open auditions for youth actors in
7th thru 12th  Grades 

(14-18 years of age) and two adults: 

AUDITION DATE: Tuesday, September 4, 2007; 6:30pm-10pm 

Cast of Characters:

LISA: a 17 years-old brunette preppie

KELLY: an attractive all-American 17 year-old

MAX: a "trashy chic" 16 year-old, speaks her own mind

BRENDA: a 14 year old black girl from a low income family. seven months
pregnant

MARY PAT: a 16 year old, plain looking and pudgy girl with glasses, eight
months pregnant

HENRY: an elderly, unshaven man, the Center's custodian, he takes his job
seriously

MRS. CHAPMAN: a middle aged pregnancy counselor

DELIVERY BOY: 17 year-old hot shot

Sides for cold readings will be provided; (optional) a short monologue.  (
2-3 mins.)

Picture and resume/or a brief bio are needed

***With the exception of Brenda, the characters are not race specific.
Actresses and Actors of all ethnic backgrounds are needed and encouraged to
audition.

Rehearsals will be held approximately four times a week up until the week of
the opening of the show.  

Auditions will be held at Karamu House; 2355 East 89th Street, Cleveland,
Ohio 44106; in the Concert Hall.    Performers, regardless of race are
encouraged to attend.   

Performances at 4:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays Arena Theatre.   October 27
- Nov. 18, 2007  

BABIES HAVING BABIES

"Babies Having Babies", is a frank, sensitive, humorous script, about young
women facing the prospect of an unplanned, unwanted pregnancy. It deals with
honesty, openness and appreciation of the pressures young women are expected
to cope with, frequently on their own, with little or no guidance from
elders, and with little understanding, compassion or thoughtfulness from
their peers. The actors portray real people, each one with her own
aspirations and plans for the future, a future which may or may not be
dimmed by an unplanned pregnancy.   Best suited for youth ages 10 thru 17
