Only the role of Sweeney Todd is pre-cast. NO OTHER ROLES ARE PRE-CAST. Please prepare a contemporary musical theater piece, with accompaniment and in the correct key. No a cappella auditions please. No need to arrange an appointment except if you are Equity. Also, no need to prepare a monologue. Although the scenes are not very long….. I will have you read directly from the script. ALL ROLES ARE COMPENSATED. I HAVE ONE EQUITY CONTRACT AVAILABLE. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, September 19. Wednesday will be dedicated to callbacks; I anticipate NO new auditions. CASTING WILL BE COMPLETED BY THE MIDDLE OF OCTOBER. Rehearsals will begin sometime the beginning of December.
THE PLAY:
Based on Christopher Bond's retelling of the Victorian pennydreadful The String of Pearls, (which was itself a retelling of a British myth, possibly rooted in truth) this musical (with a book by Hugh Wheeler) tells the tale of Sweeney Todd, a murderous barber, and his partner in crime, Nellie Lovett, a baker who disposes of the bodies by baking them into her pies. Meanwhile, Anthony Hope, a sailor who saved Todd's life, falls in love with Todd's estranged daughter, Johanna, who is being brought up as the ward of the twisted Judge Turpin. Includes the songs "Not While I'm Around," "Pretty Women," and "A Little Priest."
Production and Rehearsal dates:
Sweeney Todd will open on Friday, February 1 and run through February 17, 2008. There will be 12 or 13 performances over this period. There may or may not be one student matinee. Rehearsals will early in December. We will be off during the holidays; resuming rehearsals on January 2, 2008. Rehearsals will generally be Sunday evening through Friday.
The Roles:
Sweeney Todd, a barber: Played by DAN FOLINO.
Anthony Hope, a sailor: Between 20 and 25 years. Male
Beggar Woman: Between 33 and 40 years.Female.
Mrs. Lovett: Late 40's to mid 50's years. Female.
Judge Turpin: Between 48 and 55 years. Male.
Beadle Bamford: Between 45 and 55 years. Male.
Johanna: Between 18 and 20 years. Female.
Tobias Ragg: Between 20's and 40's years. Male.
Pirelli: Between 30 and 35 years. Male.
The COMPANY: Between 10 and 12 men/women. Ages 20-50.
