Tennessee Williams' "memory" play premiered in 1944, and was the first
commercial success in his career as one of America's most
highly-regarded writers. The play, which builds on an earlier Williams
short story, "Portrait of a Girl in Glass," presents some of Williams
most memorable characters, illustrating the tension within the family
and the resiliency of the "old south" way of life, as characters
navigate from memories of the '30s to the 1940s present.
