convergence-continuum opens the regional premier of a
GENDER-BENDING, GENRE-TWISTING COMEDY:
ACT A LADY by Jordan Harrison on Friday, Sept. 21 at the Liminis

The year is 1927, the place is the Wattleburg Elk’s Club, and the event is
a fundraiser for an old time Toys for Tots program. What could be simpler
and more wholesome? The men will even be dressed up in fancy clothes:
“fancy-type women-type clothes,” that is. As soon as the men don the
“lacies” and “stuffies” of their female counterparts, all sense of reason
and gender is thrown out the window. ACT A LADY premiered last year at the
Humana Festival and is a gender bending, genre-twisting comedy in which
gender lines start to blur, eyebrows are raised, identities explode,
realities unhinge and life and art are forever entangled. It’s full of
campy comedy, thoughtful social commentary, reflections of the
transforming power of theatre and art, and live accordion music.

For this production, the Liminis has been transformed into the Elks Club
in the small Midwestern town of Wattleburg. Company member Arthur Grothe
directs the ensemble cast which includes convergence-continuum regulars
Denise Astorino, Lucy Bredeson-Smith, Lauri Hammer, Wes Shofner and
artistic director Clyde Simon, along with newcomer to the Liminis stage,
Stuart Hoffman.

ACT A LADY opens Friday, Sept. 21 and runs at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays
and Saturdays through Oct. 20, at the Liminis, 2438 Scranton Rd.,
Cleveland, OH 44113 in Cleveland’s historic Tremont neighborhood. Tickets
are $12 general admission, $9 for students and seniors (65+). For
reservations and information call 216-687-0074 or visit
