Acclaimed Musicians Present HIV/AIDS Awareness Concerts This Fall

According to statistics published by the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, more than 1,000,000 Americans are living with HIV,
and one quarter of these are unaware of their infection. Of the
approximately 40,000 new HIV infections that occur each year in the
U.S., half occur in young adults under the age of 25. That you were
unlikely aware of these statistics is one reason why Oberlin College
has received a grant from the Robert James Frascino AIDS Foundation
to increase HIV/AIDS awareness.
Two concerts this fall—by acclaimed pianist Barbara Nissman on
September 30 and by the “Bono of Pakistan,” Salman Ahmad, on
October 5—are the by-products of that grant, and are intended to
wake us all from our quotidian slumber.
