Actors’ Summit Opens
MEDEA
Actors’ Summit Theater announced the opening of the classic tragedy MEDEA.
The play, written by Euripides, is being performed in the version adapted by
the American poet, Robinson Jeffers. The play will have a preview performance
on Thursday October 18, and will play through November 4 at Actors’ Summit
Theater in downtown Hudson. The play is performed Thursdays, Fridays, &
Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
The Play
First produced in 431 B.C.E., this remarkable work of art has held the stage
for nearly two and a half millennia. Euripides, the author, is one member of
the trio of great Greek classical playwrights (the others being Aeschylus and
 Sophocles.)
The play is based on the myth of Jason and Medea. Jason, with his Argonauts,
sought Medea’s help in his quest for the golden fleece. Having succeeded in
his great adventure, Jason and Medea have settled in Corinth. Jason abandons
Medea to marry the daughter of Creon, the ruler of Corinth. Enraged, Medea
takes a terrible revenge on Jason and Creon.
