A Tribute to Lynda Sackett
Friday, November 2, 2007
at Beck Center for the Arts

Lakewood, Ohio - Beck Center for the Arts will host A Tribute to Lynda
Sackett, Beck's long-time Director of Dance, on Friday, November 2, 2007
in recognition of her many years of service and dedication to Beck
Center. This special evening will celebrate Sackett's career of over 40
years in arts education at Beck Center. Proceeds from the event will
support the Lynda Sackett Endowment for Dance Education - a fund
established to carry on the dance programs she developed at the Beck
Center. To reserve tickets, call the Beck Center Box Office at
216-521-2540.
The evening's festivities begin with an Opening Reception in the
Cleveland Artists Foundation Gallery at Beck Center from 6:30 to 8:00
p.m. followed by a Celebratory Performance at 8:00 p.m. on the Mackey
Main Stage. Entertainment includes Roberto Ocasio's Latin Jazz Project
and the Beck Center Dance Workshop. Sackett will then meet and greet
guests at a Dessert Reception in the Daniels Lounge immediately
following the performance.
Sackett established the Dance Education program at Beck Center in the
mid-1970s. Under her direction, the program has developed and expanded
to now include over 50 dance classes each semester including ballet,
pointe, hip hop, jazz, tap, and others for students of all ages and
abilities. "Lynda had the insight and vision to create a Dance program
at Beck Center more than 30 years ago," said Edward P. Gallagher, Beck's
Director of Education and Creative Arts Therapies. "She has been
instrumental in developing this program to what it is today. We can
never express our tremendous gratitude for her leadership and loyalty to
Beck Center."
Sackett has received many notable awards over the years including the
2003 Award for Distinguished Contribution to Arts Education for
Northeast Ohio by the Ohio Arts Education Association and the 2000 Ohio
Dance Award for Advancement of Dance Education from the Ohio Dance
Association.
Beck Center for the Arts offers professional theatrical productions on
two stages, comprehensive curriculum-based arts education in Creative
Arts Therapies, dance, music, theater, and visual arts, and gallery
exhibits featuring local and regional artists. Beck Center is located
at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, just ten minutes west of downtown
Cleveland. Free convenient on-site parking is available.
