THE TURNING POINTE OFFERS AFRO/FUNK/FUSION MASTER CLASS

 

CANAL FULTON, Ohio - "Funky and not for the faint of heart" is how Najaa
Young describes her Afro/Funk/Fusion dance workshop that will be offered
Oct. 31 at The Turning Pointe School of Dance, 2387 Locust St. S, Canal
Fulton.  

 

Sure to be exciting, enjoyable and educational, the master class combines
traditional West African and Caribbean dance techniques with contemporary
dance styles to the infectious grooves of House and Afro Pop music.

Details: Participants should wear loose fitting comfortable clothing and be
prepared to work in bare feet.

 

According to her artist bio, Najaa Young is an experienced arts educator and
has taught multiple arts disciplines for Pittsburgh Dance Alloy, Karamu
House, Project STARTID, Cleveland Public Theater and Olokumi African Arts
Collective. 

 

Young's first dance instructor was her mother, who has taught African music
and dance for over 35 years. She has studied African Diasporan dance with
former and current members of the National Ballet of Senegal, National
Ballet of Guinea, Raices Profundas of Cuba, Les Ballet d'Afrique Noire,
Diamano Coura West African Dance Company, Ballet Mervailles, Kankouran West
African Dance Company and Ron K. Brown's Evidence, just to name a few. 

 

Young, who has a master's degree in fine arts in Film Production from
Florida State University's Graduate Conservatory of Motion Picture,
Television and Recording Arts, also is an accomplished writer and director
of film and theater and has had her work screened and/or performed in
several venues locally, nationally and internationally.  


She is a member of Tam Tam Magic, led by Senegalese master drummer Assane
M'Baye.
