Double Nickel Blues by Margaret Ford-Taylor, with music composed, arranged
and directed by Maestro Glenn Brackens and choreography by Terrence Green,
is a docu-drama with music and movement. Double Nickel Blues is scheduled to
be presented in the Factory Theatre of Cleveland State University for ten
performances during Black History month, 31 January-10 February, in
celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Wings Over Jordan Chorus. It will
feature a culturally diverse cast composed of CSU Dramatic Arts majors and
professional and community artists from Cleveland Art Theatre and the
Greater Cleveland community.

Blacks of African descent customarily chronicle their American journey
through music, movement and story telling. The late renowned playwright,
August Wilson, dubbed these expressions "African-American cultural
artifacts." In the tradition of Wilson, Double Nickel Blues is a work of
fiction based on the factual existence of dozens of Black businesses,
churches, social and civic organizations on Cleveland's east side during the
1940's. The intent is to capture the essence of the lives of the people who
owned them; their stories woven together with the music that consoled and
inspired them. The Cleveland narrative is a microcosmic representation of
what was occurring throughout the nation.
