HOLIDAYS SWING INTO CASSIDY THEATRE WITH TRIBUTE PRODUCTION OF “THE 1940’S RADIO HOUR”

Parma Hts. – The Cassidy Theatre presents a special holiday production of the swing era musical The 1940’s Radio Hour, Friday, Nov. 30th through Dec. 16th. Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. The Cassidy Theatre is located at 6200 Pearl Rd., Parma Heights. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors and are available by calling 440-842-4600.

A different time is evoked in this marvelously theatrical and winning show, written by Walton Jones and based on an idea by Walton Jones and Carol Lees. 1940’s Radio Hour features some of the most beloved swing era standards and ballads as well as holiday favorites. The show centers on a live holiday radio broadcast of a variety cavalcade on December 21, 1942. The spirit of that bygone era when the world was at war and pop music meant "Strike Up the Band" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" is accurately captured as a harassed producer copes with a drunk lead singer, a delivery boy who wants a chance in front of the mike, the second banana who dreams of singing a ballad, and the trumpet playing sound effects man who chooses a fighter plane over Glenn Miller. The 1940’s Radio Hour is a nostalgic holiday theatre treat for the whole family and for fans of swing music young and old.

This production will be especially poignant because it is being produced as tribute to longtime Cassidy Theatre performer, director, writer and teacher Bruce Michalski. Michalski, a beloved member of the Cassidy Theatre family for over 30 years unexpectedly passed away last summer. He was originally set to direct 1940’s Radio Hour. His wife, Sarah Seed Michalski directed the production in his honor. “Bruce always had an affinity for ‘the greatest generation’.” says Michalski. “He honored veterans and it was important for us to carry on this production in the way he would have wanted”.

Joining Michalski on the 1940’s Radio Hour production staff are JoAnn Hodge as Musical Director and Kim Mihalik as choreographer. The show stars Mihalik, along with Susan DiDino, Shane Siniscalchi, Mark McCarthy, Mark Mazur, Kelli Schimelpfenig, Bob Zombar, Jennifer Ryan, Sarah Clare, Stephanie Donley, Katie DelVecchio, Ed Ault, Cheryl Winslow, Michael Caraffi, Aaron Kastanis, David Williams, Rita Poling, Mary Prucha, Mark Snyder, Claudia Schieve, Ryan Haddad and Teri Nunn.
