I've just published a reproduction of "How to Enter Vaudeville," an illustrated guide written in 1913 for folks wanting to enter the vaudeville circuit. It's filled with information about acting, makeup, agents, theater owners and everything that made up vaudeville 95 years ago!

I'm selling copies for $16 each (+$3.99 S&H) through http://www.howtoentervaudeville.com, but have a SPECIAL DISCOUNT for NEOhioPAL members (see below):

The book makes a great gift for any theater lover, actor, dancer, singer, historian...

  ABOUT THE BOOK:
95 years ago, a man writing under the pseudonym, Frederic La Delle, filled 56 pages with drawings, descriptions, contracts, ads and photos describing - and illustrating - stagecraft of the day. The book's not exactly PC, but is IS interesting as heck! It provides descriptions of 90 different acts - from juggling to chapeauography to black face.

"How to Enter Vaudeville" has been highlighted by the Library of Congress in a Bob Hope retrospective and is an excellent source of information about performing arts history. It's rare, it's attractive (see http://www.howtoentervaudeville.com for a picture of the cover and some page PDFs) and it's a good read.

I searched for years before finding a copy in good enough condition to reproduce. I finally found a second edition (the primary difference from the first edition is the ads; and that it was published in L.A, CA and not Jackson, MI) that was crisp and clean.

It killed me to pry out the saddle staples and scan the pages in high resolution, exposing the delicate pages to bright light. Being a graphic artist (founder of www.thinknik.com) and a performer, this was a labor of love. You will receive a copy in the same format as the original - with cover, saddle staples and pages reproducing the book's original glory and print imperfections!

  THE SUPER-SPECIAL OFFER:
NEOhioPAL subscribers (and friends) can pick up a copy of "How to Enter Vaudeville" for only $14, and I'll pick up shipping and handling throughout the 48 states! That'll save you enough to buy a venti mocha latte - or a number 4 with Coke (no supersize).
This deal good through January 11, 2008!

Of course, bulk pricing is also available for professors (*Ahem*, Professor Fields), bookshops and groups wishing to purchase 10 or more books.

  YOUR HELP WOULD BE SWELL:
Please send this e-mail to your theater loving friends and fellow performers!
Feel free to share this special, limited-time offer:

I'll look forward to hearing from you!
