The Cleveland Play House announces auditions for The Emperor's Groovy New
Clothes, a musical for children. The production will be directed by Cathy
Hartenstein, the Cleveland Play House's education director. The musical
director will be Lisa Bell and the choreographer Pandora Robertson.

First rehearsal is scheduled for March 11, with performances April 8-May 11,
with a possible one week extension. Rehearsals will be, in general,
3:00-7:00, and all performances are daytime. All positions are non-AEA;
there will be a weekly salary for the full rehearsal and performance period.

Auditions will be by appointment only Thursday, January 24 and Friday,
January 25 from 4:00 until 7:00. For the audition please prepare a song and
a monologue that, combined, lasts about three minutes.

To make an appointment please respond to this email with your name, phone
number, the character(s) for which you wish to be considered, and your
availability on the 24th and 25th.

All roles are currently open:

Kid - 10-12 years old. Played by an actress in her early 20's. Spunky,
comfortable with herself, jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. Honest, real,
determined.

Emperor - played by an actor 30-40. A boy in a man's body. Spoiled. Wants
a friend and wants to succeed.

Mom - Played by an actress 35-50. Chic, business woman, impressionable.

Dad - Played by an actor 35-50. Trying too hard to be fashionable - almost
looks out of place, impressionable.

June and Marrisa - Played by an actress 35-45. Marissa will be a puppet
manipulated by June. A spoof on Joan Rivers and her daughter Melissa.
Tacky, glitzy, plastic, abrasive. Wants to be where the action is at.

Primp (Woman) and Preen (Man) - Played by the actors who play Mom and Dad.
Think of Amanda and Marc on Ugly Betty. They try too hard, nervous, under
pressure, kiss-ups. Want to get everything right.

Louie Shyster - Played by the actor who plays Dad. A total con man, has a
New York accent, smarmy and sketchy. Can either look like a bum, or where a
fancy suite with gold rings and a money clip.
