Job Description

 

Technical  Director

 

Hours: 10 Hours/Week; 52 Weeks/Year

 

Salary:            As Negotiated

 

Qualifications: 

 

·        Knowledge and experience with professional quality audio equipment

·        Knowledge and experience running a sound/mixer board used for voice and a variety of musical styles, both vocal and instrumental.

·        Knowledge and experience with microphone placement, cabling, etc.

·        A musical background sufficient to be able to properly balance an audio mix in a variety of styles ranging from classical to rock.

·        Knowledge of both analog and digital audio recording techniques.  (Editing experience is considered a plus.)

·        Knowledge of video cameras, and their use.

·        Knowledge of both analog and digital video recording techniques.

·        Knowledge and experience with video projection techniques, including projecting from video cameras, from personal computers, and from tape/DVD; with the capability to seamlessly switch between sources and overlay sources as necessary.

·        Experience with personal computers and Microsoft PowerPoint is considered a plus.

·        Ability to interface audio and video feeds for recording purposes.

·        Experience editing video recording for archive and publicity purposes.

·        Knowledge and experience designing, focusing and running stage lighting is considered a plus.

 

Overview:       

 

The Technical Director is responsible for all audio and video operations within the church.  Working with volunteers, they will oversee the sound and video presentations for the contemporary worship services, dramatic productions, and special programs of the church.

 

Duties:            

 

·        Sunday morning contemporary worship service – The technical director will work with volunteers to set up microphones and video cameras (including necessary cabling).  The technical director and volunteers will then “run” the service, providing the audio mix for both the praise band (including vocalists), pastors, and other speakers.  Additionally, live video feeds will be mixed with PowerPoint, and DVD feeds and projected on screens at the front of the worship space.

 

·        Sunday evening contemporary worship service – (Responsibilities are the same as Sunday morning.)

 

·        Training volunteers – The technical director is expecting to be the “expert” on staff regarding the audio-visual-multimedia equipment of the church.  They will be responsible for training and coordinating volunteer efforts in these areas.  (They will not be responsible for recruiting, although their assistance in this area will be appreciated.)

 

·        Stage productions -- Church of the Saviour produces an average of two dramas each year.  The technical director will be expected to work along side volunteers to provide lighting, sound, and possibly multimedia support to these.  (Hours put in on these drama will be compensated beyond the weekly salary.)

 

·        Maintenance of equipment – It is expected that all audio, video, and multimedia equipment will be maintained in peak condition.  The oversight of this is the responsibility of the Technical Director.  Repairs and maintenance costs will be paid by the Board of Trustees, and coordinated through the Church of the Saviour Property Manager.
