As a former Equity actor working out of New York, I know the financial challenges that prevent performing artists from being able to afford legal assistance. I would like to offer all local actors and other performing artists the opportunity to obtain some very basic planning documents that communicate health care decision-making to providers and loved ones. If you would like me to draft you a Declaration (known in other states as a Living Will) and a Durable Power of Attorney For Health Care, drop me an e-mail at David at DavidBensonLaw.com.
 
The Declaration allows you to designate what kind of treatment you want if you are terminally ill or permanently disabled (e.g., in a vegetative state). The Durable Power of Attorney For Healthcare lets you name someone to make medical decisions on your behalf if you are unconscious (e.g., comatose) or otherwise unable to make decisions on your own. These documents are sometimes referred to as Advance Directives and give those caring for you a roadmap as to how to proceed.
 
Not pleasant to think about, I know, but important to have nonetheless.
