Eloy Nepo began reciting poetry from at age 5 in Radio, school presentations
and competitions in his native Peru. He has appeared numerous times in
cultural events in Peru, and the United States. Eloy lives in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania.

Poetry recitation in Peru, as it is in many Latin American countries, is a
time honored tradition. The "recitador" or "declamador" enunciates each word
of the poem trying to extract the musicality and stressing the rhythm found
in the poem and making the story told in the poem come to life. The poem
could be "rezado " (recited), "cantao" (chanted) or a combination of both,
al-capella or with some musical instrument. Many oral traditions were passed
from one generation to another in the form of poetry, may times simply
memorized because the author did not know how to read or write.

A favored form of the popular poets in Latinamerica is the Décima. Eloy will
interpret décimas written by Peruv ian, Chilean and Venezuelan and Spanish
poets. He will also interpret other poems by Argentinean and Uruguayan
poets.

This program will include poems by:

   - Nicomedes Santa Cruz (Peru)
   - Julio Migno (Argentina)
   - Pancho Astorga (Chile)
   - Rafael Martínez (El cazador Novato, Venezuela)
   - Miguel Hernandez (Spain)
   - Tito Fernandez (Chile)
   - Roberto Darvin (Uruguay)
