  The Boys of the Lough

Only Northeast Ohio stop on
40 year Anniversary Tour

After two shows on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion", the Western Reserve Folk Arts Association presents The Boys of The Lough, Thursday March 6Th at 8PM. The Boys of the Lough are one of the longest-running bands on the folk scene, now entering their fifth decade of making music together. The ever-increasing popularity of Celtic music owes much to the Boys' steadfast devotion... to acoustic instruments, traditional tunes, and the old ways of playing. Their lasting legacy is "music that tastes of itself."

With forty plus years of experience in the world of traditional music, 70 North American tours, 21 recordings and two Grammy nominations, Boys of the Lough has reached legendary status. The group features Cathal McConnell on flute, whistles and vocals; Dave Richardson on concertina, mandolin, button accordion and cittern; Brendan Begley on button accordion, melodeon, and vocals; Malcolm Stitt on guitar, bouzouki and Highland pipe; and Kevin Henderson on fiddle.

The Boys have established a reputation for technical brilliance and integrity combined with a ready wit and sense of fun. The music ranges widely through traditional melodies of Ireland and encompasses fiddle music of Shetland, Scotland and North America. Compelling dance rhythms, which give the music such life, will lift your audience to their feet; the evocative slow airs and beautifully structured songs — some in the Irish language — will have them coming back for more.

"The most rhythmically bracing of the traditional music bands." -Time Magazine

"Traditional heroes — played a moving set, putting people on their feet and making them dance the night away." -Irish World
