FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OLMSTED PERFORMING ARTS TO PRESENT BIT OF OHIO HISTORY WITH CLASSIC IRVING BERLIN MUSICAL – VIDEO SERIES DOCUMENTS PRODUCTION

Olmsted Falls – In 1860 a girl named Phoebe Ann Mosey was born in the small western Ohio town of Willowdell. Normally that wouldn’t be newsworthy except this particular girl would soon become legendary all over the world. Phoebe Ann Mosey was the world famous sharpshooter known as Annie Oakley. Her life was immortalized in the Irving Berlin Musical Annie Get Your Gun. Now that musical is coming to life on the Olmsted Performing Arts stage. Annie Get Your Gun runs 7 p.m. Thursday April 24, Friday April 25 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday April 26 at Worldview Community Theatre, 6941 Columbia Road, Olmsted Falls. Advance tickets are $11 for adults and $7 for seniors and children ages 4-12. $13 and $8 at the door. Children under 4 are free. Tickets can be purchased by calling 440-465-3355 or online at www.olmstedperformingarts.com. The process of producing the O.P.A. musical has been captured in a documentary series of videos taking viewers behind the scenes starting
from the very first auditions. The videos have been a part of “Call-Back”, the local cable program dedicated to area community theatre productions seen Mondays at 10:30p on local Cox cable channel 45. The videos can also be found online on YouTube by searching for “Annie Get Your Gun at Olmsted Performing Arts”. O.P.A. Artistic Director Angela Boehm says “We really want to introduce O.P.A. and this wonderful cast to a larger audience so that people get familiar with our production in a new way. We think this documentary series is a great way to do that.”

As a young girl, Annie Oakley became known as an expert shotgun sharpshooter. Her amazing talent and timely rise to fame led to a starring role in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, which propelled her to become the first American female superstar. Annie Get Your Gun is a fictionalized musical version of the life of Annie Oakley and her husband, Frank Butler. Lyrics and music were written by Irving Berlin and a book by Herbert Fields and his sister Dorothy Fields. The original 1946 Broadway production was a smash hit, and the musical had long runs in both New York (1,147 performances) and London, spawning revivals, a 1950 film version and television versions. Songs that became hits include "There's No Business Like Show Business", "Doin' What Comes Natur'lly", "You Can't Get A Man With A Gun", "They Say It's Wonderful", and "Anything You Can Do."

The Olmsted Performing Arts production is Directed by Boehm with Musical Direction by Heidi Herczeg and Choreography by Jillian Looby. Along with a cast of over 30 young actors and actresses, Annie Get Your Gun stars Rebecca Lehane as Annie Oakley, D.J. Forbush as Frank Butler, Alex Martin as Buffalo Bill Cody, Kevin Lauver as Charlie, Rachel Reiser as Dolly, Tommy Suleiman as Tommy and Michelle Chaho as Winnie. After previous O.P.A. offerings of Disney musicals like High School Musical, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, Annie Get Your Gun represents a return to a classic musical appealing to audiences of all ages, including older audiences. Director Boehm says, “These young performers are so talented and dedicated to breathing new life into this classic. People who love Annie Get Your Gun will love our production.”
