Job Description
 
Job Title: Chancel Choir Director

Expectations RE Work Schedule
 
1.       Directs adult choral music for the worship service weekly from the 1st Sunday after Labor Day through the 1st Sunday in June. Exceptions: The Sunday between Christmas and New Year and the Sunday following Easter are weeks off.
2.       Provides direction of the chancel choir rehearsals weekly for a minimum of 90 minutes.
 
Job Summary
 
Provides direction of the Chancel Choir in inspirational music for the congregation in their worship of God. 
 
Job Duties
 
1.       Arrives at the church 30 minutes prior to each worship service in which the choir is singing to prepare the choir for the worship service.
2.       Selects choir music suitable for worship and appropriate for the sermon topic and/or season. Music selections must be completed and reported to the church secretary by Thursday morning for inclusion in the Sunday bulletin. Music selections are to be given to the accompanist a minimum of two weeks prior to the first rehearsal.
3.       Attends a meeting in August with pastor, all choir directors, the organist, and the Worship Ministry chair to plan the musical season.
4.       Attends the quarterly Worship Ministry meetings.
5.       Provides direction for special services including but not limited to: Easter, Community Thanksgiving Service (when we are the host), and Christmas Eve.
6.       Purchases music for Chancel Choir in coordination with Worship Ministry Chair and the church treasurer.
7.       Assists with summer music schedule in conjunction with Children’s Choir Director and Principal Keyboardist.
 
Minimum Qualifications
 
·         Demonstrates the ability to conduct an adult choir utilizing a variety of music styles. 
·         Ability to provide instruction on diction, tone quality, blend, dynamics, and other musical elements.
·         Successfully passes a background check.
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
·         A degree in music with a concentration in conducting or education or a minimum of 5 years experience leading a church choir.
·         An understanding of the United Methodist Liturgical Year.
