Cleveland Public Theatre seeks 
Artist-Instructor for Full Time Position 

 

Cleveland Public Theatre is looking for a collaborative theatre artist
to fill a full time position with CPT's Education Department

 

The Education Associate position has two areas of responsibility:

1)       Acting Instruction: teach the basics of acting and performance
to children, teen and adult participants in a variety of settings (see
program descriptions below); create acting curriculum; develop original
performance material; collaborate with Education Director and other
professional artists.

2)       Administration: work with Education Director in all areas of
program delivery including: participant recruitment, management and
evaluation; tour booking and management; and development of program
partner relationships 

 

Program descriptions 

*          STEP    Rigorous training for urban youth ages 14-19 in
acting, writing, movement, voice, dance, production, and touring. During
the 8-week summer program, students work in collaboration with CPT
artists to develop an original play or an inventive adaptation of an
existing work, and then tour it to outdoor venues throughout the City of
Cleveland.  

*          Creative Diversion Project   A new CPT after-school program
which utilizes theatre in order to create awareness and offer
alternatives to teens and elementary school aged children who are at
risk for gang involvement. Over an eight-week period, teens will be
guided in the creation an original performance and then will tour it to
three K-8 schools. 

*          Y-Haven Theatre Project    In partnership with the Cleveland
YMCA's Y-Haven transitional housing facility, CPT artists collaborate
with formerly homeless men aged 18 to 65 in recovery from drug/alcohol
addiction to create an original play based on the men's experiences.
Presented at Y-Haven and CPT, the production tours to homeless shelters,
high schools and college campuses.  

*          Brick City Theatre   A program for children ages 5-13 living
in public housing offered in partnership with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan
Housing Authority. Under the dedicated guidance of CPT Teaching Artists,
children enhance academic and life skills as they develop their own
plays and perform them for their community.

*          Women's Voices Project   A collaboration between CPT and the
Elyria YWCA's Women's Campus Project, this program connects women in
transition with the tools of creative expression to help them achieve
independent living and recover from domestic violence and/or addiction.
Performances of the women's stories and poetry are presented at CPT,
Elyria YWCA, area shelters and prisons.

 

Skills required

*	Experience teaching acting to participants with no previous
performance experience 
*	Experienced actor or excellent directing and actor-coaching
skills
*	Qualified to be a strong role model for men in recovery and male
urban youth 
*	Energetic, responsive, flexible, creative
*	Attentive to details, ability to work independently, proficiency
with Microsoft Word and Excel
*	Openness to learning new techniques in the creation of original
performance material
*	Eager to learn new skills in performance touring and arts
administration
*	Special consideration given to individuals who have experience
in social work

 

CONSIDERATIONS

*	Full time, salaried position with benefits
*	Primarily afternoon and evening hours; several weeks with
extended days for program touring 
*	Out-of-town artists would be assisted in finding affordable
housing
*	Artist must have a reliable vehicle
