FOURTH WALL’S THE BANK GUARDS IS ENTERTAINING CRITICS
FIRST REVIEWS PAINT SPROSTY’S PLAY A WITTY DRAMA

(May, 2008)

Linda Eisenstein of CoolCleveland.com-

“Local playwright Matthew Sprosty (Malicious Bunny) has an unfailing sense of black comic dialogue. Billed as a drama, his new play about bank guards who plan a heist has more laughs that most comedies. Think Tarentino: confused dudes who spew delightfully digressive riffs that are actually more entertaining than the genre-based plot. The young company's production is smart and engaging, with whipcrack direction by Rebecca Cole and energetic performances by an able cast.”

Kelly Ferjutz of CoolCleveland.com-

“Twists and turns abound, along with laugh-out-loud lines, and lots of testosterone showing off…”

“The actors—Ric Barr (Lawrence), Dash Combs (Crowe), Nate Bigger (Dustin), DJ Hellerman (Rick), Michael Riffle (Ben) and Benjamin Gates (the kid, Trevor)—[…] do well in the confined space with the minimal props. Resident Director Rebecca Cole keeps the pace moving swiftly, aided by Technical Director Justin Tatum. In the end, it's a production from a great young troupe that's got a lot going for it... and well worth experiencing.”

Christine Howey (Scene Magazine)-

“"The young playwright is adept at conjuring interesting scenarios along with creating flash-frame moments of trenchant humor"

ABOUT THE BANK GUARDS

The Bank Guards is a drama about deceit, greed, and testosterone centering around five security guards posted at the fictional “Cleveland Federal” bank. Desperate, and convinced, that they deserve more compensation than their twenty-seven thousand dollar paychecks to protect the wealthiest of Cleveland’s money- they decide to rob their own bank. The Bank Guards is set the night before the robbery where they come together to finalize their plans. Unfortunately, they’re about to realize that sometimes the best laid plans fall flat. And, when one guard is late to show up, while another unexpected visitor arrives, they must begin to wonder why some of them seem to know more about what’s going on than others.
