Hello All—
Here’s information about two exciting digital film programs for teens
and youth--one in film making and one in acting for the camera. For a
brochure, please send an email to
avalentine at ansleyvalentineproductions.com. We have three to five spots
available in each program.

The Summer Digital Film Experience for Teens
For students 13 to 18 years old
Location: Oberlin College
Check In: Monday, June 23rd
Check Out: Saturday, June 28th
Fees: $690 Residential Campers (all meals, housing provided)

The Summer Digital Film Experience at Oberlin College introduces
beginning and more advanced film writers, actors, directors and
producers
to the independent film process. Using digital film technology, students

will take on some of the roles involved in the world of film production.

Rather than try to mimic Hollywood, we use an independent filmmaking
model—a process we hope the students can replicate when they make
video projects on their own. This year, we will offer an advanced
program
for returning students or those with more experience. For all students,
the
workshop begins with intensive script writing.

Working in groups, students will develop 10-minute short scripts
highlighting strong storylines, believable characters and exciting
dialogue.
Students will then “pitch” their scripts in a selection process. Chosen
scripts will be filmed, allowing students to experience acting,
directing and
producing. Students will also serve as crew members, and learn about
digital video cameras, sound, editing, lighting, location scouting, and
other
skills required to produce an independent short. The schedule will vary
based on the production and instructional needs of the process. Days
will include writing, filming and editing. Nights will be free for film
viewing,
relaxation, or filming scripts that require a night location.

Cost & Registration
$690 covers five nights of housing, all meals, insurance, instruction,
handouts, and the use of digital film equipment (cameras, lights, etc.),
and
a DVD of all of the projects. A $250 non-refundable deposit must be paid

by Monday, June 16. The remaining balance must be paid on or before the
first day of camp. Space permitting, students may register after June
16.
All students must provide a $25 cash key deposit at check-in, which will

be refunded at the conclusion of the program.

Who Can Attend
The camp is intended for students age 13 to 18 who have an interest in
writing and/or creating film. No experience is necessary, but a serious
interest in the creative aspects of film is strongly recommended.

Camp Director
Associate Professor Ansley Valentine has professional experience
in screen writing, acting, directing and film production. He chairs
the Film Studies program and regularly teaches film courses
at The College of Wooster.

New for 2008
Acting for the Camera
For students 10 to 18 years old
Location: Denison University
Check In: Monday, June 30th 8 am-10 am
Check Out: Wednesday, July 2nd 6pm
Fees: Commuters (noon & evening meals provided) $320
Residential Campers (all meals, housing provided) $380
Campers are separated by grade level for teaching.
Acting for the Camera introduces beginning and more
advanced student actors to the demands of performing
for a camera. Using digital film technology, students will
take on some of the kinds of roles they might have in front
of a camera. Every student will learn about dramatic and
comedic acting, television commercials, and spokesperson/
model. Students will also have a chance to meet industry
professionals and ask questions about career options
and opportunities. Every student will receive a DVD with
samples of their work from class.
