Mark is correct about the Writers Guild site, too. That is not as official as the LOC, but it has legitimacy in the trade and would be credible evidence in any kind of case involving a dispute. Courts give deference to customs of a particular trade or profession.> Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2008 15:19:46 -0700> From: cipram at sbcglobal.net> To: neohiopal at listserve.com> Subject: Re: [NEohioPAL] SongRegistration> > Likewise, don't know the site, but I'd be inclined to argue against it. In the world of screenwriting, you are encouraged to copyright the piece (starting with the copyright site Al mentions; everything else he mentions is accurate as well, to the best of my knowledge). You are also encouraged to register it ... directly with the Writers Guild of America. If there is an equivalent organization for songwriters, it is likely that the site you're talking about simply registers it with them, but that's probably something you can do for yourself with just a little investigation.> Mark Cipra> > > --> "There is no sincerer love than the love of food" - Shaw> > > ----- Original Message ----> From: Al Diamond Phillips <alitivity at yahoo.com>> To: neohiopal at listserve.com; Evelyn Carr <ecarr1957 at sbcglobal.net>> Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2008 1:14:44 PM> Subject: Re: [NEohioPAL] SongRegistration> > I do not know about this site in particular, but here is a little info on Copyrights. Most people believe that you own copyrights to your song from the time you apply for the registration. The actual rights to your song starts from the day it is written. Here is where it gets tricky. If a dispute ever arises where someone else says that they wrote the song, Having your song registered gives you the burden of proof needed to show the song belongs to you. The only place I would register a song is with the library of Congress copyright office http://www.copyright.gov/ . this other site may give you proof of you rights, but on the other hand it may not be around in a few years. Many web based businesses come and go. If they go under they will take your regisration with them. The Government run Copyright office isnt going anywhere, and it is the recognized keeper of records in the United States. Their word is absolute in a court of law.> > Al> > > --- On Thu, 6/12/08, Evelyn Carr <ecarr1957 at sbcglobal.net> wrote:> > > From: Evelyn Carr <ecarr1957 at sbcglobal.net>> > Subject: [NEohioPAL] SongRegistration> > To: neohiopal at listserve.com> > Date: Thursday, June 12, 2008, 12:05 PM> > Does anyone have any feedback on a web site called> > SongRegistration.com?> > ______________________________________> > NEohioPAL is SELF-SERVE.
