[NEohioPAL] Directors needed for teen acted "issue" plays

The Accent on Youth Program of the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is seeking directors for its 2008-2009 programs.  
 
Accent on Youth, now beginning its third season, is an outreach program which produces relevant plays for young audiences. It is sponsored by the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, supported by the Ridgecliff Foundation, and is primarily designed to initiate a dialogue and increase awareness of counseling opportunities for students of all levels.  The plays deal with issues confronting students from 1st grade through 12th, and include subjects such as bullying, conflict resolution, teen suicide, and alcohol and drug abuse.  The performers are high school students and the plays this school year will be presented to the Mayfield, Solon, Chagrin Falls, and Kenston school systems - elementary, intermediate, middle, and high school levels.   Each director hired will be responsible for one play that will probably be performed at two or three different schools.  The plays are followed by either a large group discussion or discussions in small "break
 out" groups.  
 
Rehearsals will be held at the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre in Chagrin Falls and at the school where the performance will take place.  The plays are 30 to 45 minutes long and need to be directed in such a way that they can easily adjust to any space (i.e. a gym, or stage, or multi purpose room), they must use minimal set pieces and need to be creative and dynamic in order to hold the interest of audiences sometimes as large as 300 students.  The directors will help to prepare the actors, along with a school counselor, for discussions with the students following the performances.  
 
Auditions for the plays will be held sometime between late August and mid September.  Performances will be scheduled for various times throughout the school year.
