Main Street-Kent and The Kent Stage are pleased to welcome Alex Bevan to the Kent After Work Party this Friday, July 18, from 5 -8 PM.

The Kent After Work Party will take place at the Home Savings Bank Plaza at the corner of Main and Water Streets in Downtown Kent.  This event is free and open to all.     "The combination of a North East Ohio folk legend like Alex Bevan and wonderful weather will certainly make this an event not to miss!  Alex is a great friend of The Kent Stage and recorded his newest CD, Alex Bevan - Live at The Kent Stage here in March," said Tom Simpson, President of the Main Street-Kent Board and principal owner of The Kent Stage.    "After a successful inaugural event last month, we are looking forward to a larger crowd this Friday.  The first event was a great kick-off and the music of Kent own, Dan Smith was fantastic, more then we could have asked for to get us started", Simpson continued.   "We are looking forward to the continuation of these events.  There are two more scheduled for August and we are considering  expanding the series by
moving into The Kent Stage when the inevitable cold weather returns," added Richele Charlton, Main Street-Kent Promotions Committee Chairperson and Assistant Director of The Kent Stage.    The  Western Reserve Folk Arts Association, (The non-profit organization which manages The Kent Stage) will be on hand selling Pepsi products, water, coffee, Miller Lite and Labatt as well as various snack foods. All proceeds will benefit The Kent Stage and Main Street-Kent.  Adding to the food offerings will be The Dawgfather selling his famous hot dogs, sausages and ribs.  For more info, please call 330-677-8000 or 330-677-5005.   About Alex Bevan Alex Bevan has been sharing his voice, guitar, music and stories with audiences for more than thirty years.  First known as the "Skinny Little Boy" from Cleveland, Ohio
who came to "Chase your wimmin' and drink your beer", Alex has made a name for himself through out the Northern Ohio music scene.

Drawing on his deep skill set of imaginative and honest song writing combined with an agile, improvisational wit that dovetail wonderfully with his flawless guitar slinging,
Alex never fails to delight and charm audiences no matter what the venue.

His recordings span the gamut from folk to folk rock and pop to children's educational music and he has won a number of awards for his commercial efforts in radio and television.  Alex's creative works  have also contributed to documentary film scores.

The Red Violin
Saturday July 19th @ 9PM
doors open @ 5PM
The Red Violin is a beautiful award-winning film of great drama and emotion, with a stunning soundtrack from major contemporary composer John Corigliano that features a brilliant performance from violinist Joshua Bell. The film was released by Lion's Gate Films on June 11, 1999 in New York and Los Angeles, and opened in wide release in the following weeks.
A tale filled with passion, pageantry, tragedy, romance, adventure and intrigue, The Red Violin centers around a contemporary auction in which a priceless violin with an infamous past is placed on the block. As the bidding mounts, the story flashes back to signature chapters in the violin's history and the inevitable impact it had on all those who possessed it. From its creation in 17th-century Italy, to the court of imperial Vienna in the 1790's, to Victorian England in the late 1800's, to the People's Republic of China in the mid-1960's, the dramatic story spans continents and sweeps centuries. At the center of the story is a dark secret that is only revealed at the film's suspenseful and sensational finale.
Directed by François Girard and with an original screenplay by Girard and Don McKellar (the creative team behind the award-winning film Thirty-Two Short Films About Glenn Gould), The Red Violin boasts a stellar international cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Greta Scacchi, Colm Feore, Don McKellar, Jason Flemyng and Sylvia Chang.

 Tickets: $5.00 General
$3.00 Students/Seniors
