I'm frantically trying to find a fill-in for myself for a 1960's tribute
band performance in Sandusky. You would only need to sing one song, These
Boots Were Made For Walkin', and dance the rest of the time. I have a
British flag dress for you to wear-must fit a size S/M (it's stretchy). You
must have your own go-go or knee-high boots to wear.

Show is in Sandusky from 6-10. Pay is about $100. Please respond with bio
and photo!!!

Subject: [NEohioPAL] Submission deadline for Lakewood Public Library
        indie-film program in Spring 2009
To: "NEOhio-PAL Submissions" <neohiopal at listserve.com>
Message-ID: <380-220087417155122493 at earthlink.net>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

The original post is below. Deadline for submissions to me is mid-to-late
September. I will then turn your titles over to the library's
administration for approval. Thanks to everybody for your interest, help &
cooperation. Please, contact me with any questions or concerns. Otherwise,
I'll pass long details as they come available.

***
I'm soliciting independent films for preview, with the intention of
presenting them to the Lakewood Public Library for screening at a six-part
series during Spring 2009. I'll be introducing each film with a brief
commentary prior to its screening.

This program was just presented to me yesterday, so details are pending.
The screenings are to be open to the public and admission is to be free of
cost.

Until I hear otherwise, the only restriction on submissions is, extreme
sexual or violent content is prohibited. Please, don't submit any films you
wouldn't be comfortable watching with your parents, children, and
clergyperson/spiritual advisor/therapist. They don't have to be strictly
"G-rated"--- just not too over-the-top.

Further, unless I hear otherwise, presumably there will be no compensation
for the screening of films at this particular program.

Certainly, brand new films are welcome but if you have an older film that
you want to screen publicly, I encourage you to submit it. Bear in mind
that the Lakewood Public Library schedules its programming far in advance.
For example, Spring programming might begin in March, but the library
administration is scheduling now.

Personally, my preference is to showcase Ohio filmmakers but, for variety's
sake, if anyone knows any filmmakers outside of Ohio, I'd like submissions
from everywhere. I'd also like to know if anyone knows of boards similar to
NEOhio-PAL on which I could post request submissions. ( I know the question
of other such boards came up before but it wasn't about me, so I wasn't
paying attention.)

Additionally, if you e'mail me with a submission or recommendation, please
let me know if there are clips online and let me know the URL or the link.
Also, let me know the running time of your film. If the running time is
more than 90 minutes or two hours, let me know if you'd be willing to submit
an edited version if necessary. Likewise, if it's a film that I might want
to include but it has some questionable material, let me know if you would
submit an edited version.

Also, I don't know what the arrangements will be for returning your disk. I
don't know if the Library will want to keep your film to put into
circulation or maybe even buy a couple copies for each branch. If you
submit a disk to me, please include contact and ordering information, and a
self-addressed envelope with postage just in case we need to send your disk
back to you.

Please contact me at msrg-publications @earthlink.net if you wish to submit
your independent film. If you have any questions or concerns, I'll present
them to the proper authorities at the Lakewood Public Library and make every
effort to get more information for you.

Thank you.

There is still hope. They pretty much shot it down in June, but according
to people inside the industry- there can/will be a revote on it in 2009.
Unfortunately, nothing about the decision they have made can be changed in
this year. Apparently, it can be brought up to be voted again in January,
and maybe by Spring of 2009, have a revote for it.

This is what I've heard. I do not know the accuracy of it.

Hi All- My information is 3rd party. 2 friends forwarded me the letter.
They heard the news from a film crew member. I plan to call the Governors
office. Hopefully, the information I received is inaccurate and the bill is
still alive.

Jean-

Do you have more information about this bill? All I can find is HB 196 which
was introduced in the lower chamber in April but as far as I can see on the
general assembly website, went nowhere in the assembly, let alone landed on
the
governor's desk for him to veto. It seems to have been introduced in
committee
but progressed no further.

I would be interested if you have other information to the contrary.

The Red Violin
Saturday July 19th @ 9PM?
doors open @?5PM
The Red Violin is a beautiful award-winning film of great drama and emotion,
with a stunning soundtrack from major contemporary composer John Corigliano
that features a brilliant performance from violinist Joshua Bell. The film
was released by Lion's Gate Films on June 11, 1999 in New York and Los
Angeles, and opened in wide release in the following weeks.
A tale filled with passion, pageantry, tragedy, romance, adventure and
intrigue, The Red Violin centers around a contemporary auction in which a
priceless violin with an infamous past is placed on the block. As the
bidding mounts, the story flashes back to signature chapters in the violin's
history and the inevitable impact it had on all those who possessed it. From
its creation in 17th-century Italy, to the court of imperial Vienna in the
1790's, to Victorian England in the late 1800's, to the People's Republic of
China in the mid-1960's, the dramatic story spans continents and sweeps
centuries. At the center of the story is a dark secret that is only revealed
at the film's suspenseful and sensational finale.
Directed by Fran?ois Girard and with an original screenplay by Girard and
Don McKellar (the creative team behind the award-winning film Thirty-Two
Short Films About Glenn Gould), The Red Violin boasts a stellar
international cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Greta Scacchi, Colm Feore,
Don McKellar, Jason Flemyng and Sylvia Chang.

The MAD* Factory

Players Proudly Present

"The Butler Did It, Singing!"

Book by Tim Kelly

Music by Arne Christiansen

Lyrics by Ole Kittleson

Produced by special arrangement with Baker's Plays

This is a delightful, audience pleasing, musical spoof based on Mr. Kelly's
enormously popular hit The Butler Did It. Miss Maple, a flaky society
dowager, invites a pack of zany detective writers to a spooky house on an
isolated island and forces them to impersonate their fictional sleuths. For
entertainment, she arranges some "classic" touches - a hairy face at the
window, the threat of an escaped lunatic, no communications with the outside
world. What she did not arrange was the body on the sitting room carpet!
It's up to seedy Chandler Marlowe to solve the bizarre case and he makes a
side-splitting mess of it!

FINAL WEEKEND!

The Royalton Players proudly present

"The Face on the Barroom Floor" - or - "Glimpsed Through the Sawdust"

This is a hilarious slapstick Melodrama spoof set in the 1890's in the

barroom of the Teller House, a hotel in Central City, Colorado.

Insidious villains endeavor to separate Madelaine Mockingbird,

chambermaid turned singer, from the fortune left her by an old miner and

from her true love: Jack "Toulouse" Goodhart, painter turned tramp

Various other odd characters populate the barroom, including a

perpetually happy miner, a grim bar keep, and an Arabic entertainer. All

of which add humor, mystery, and zany action.

This is a show you can bring the family to!

Friday and Saturday, July 18, and 19, Curtain Time 8 pm

Tickets: $10 adults, $8 students and seniors

Performances are at the: E. S. Griffiths Masonic Lodge, 6320 Royalton

Are now at www.cleveland.com/theater.

The scaffolding is out of the way, so you can actually see all the new
stuff: the hydraulic thrusters under the stage, a new lighting
grid/catwalk/acoustical panel unit high overhead, and a two-story technical
tower in the balcony.

Check it all out, at your friendly local theater blog.
