The seventh annual benefit for the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland and
the Community AIDS Network,

"SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE!"

is quickly approaching! While AIDS may no longer be front-page news, it
continues to be a serious health crisis. Last Saturday, the Centers for
Disease Control released a report estimating the number of new HIV
infections at 56,000 annually -- a significant increase over previous
estimates. Many of us have lost friends, family members, lovers or
colleagues to AIDS, and most of us know someone who is living with HIV
today (whether we realize it or not). The AIDS Taskforce and CAN
continue to fight the spread of HIV through education and outreach
efforts, while also providing housing, counseling, medical care and a
variety of other services to those living with HIV.

As a socially-engaged member of the Northeast Ohio performing arts
community, you may be asking yourself, "How can I help in the fight
against AIDS?" Here are five steps that you can take:

1) Come to a performance of "Schoolhouse Rock LIVE!" -- you'll be making
a donation to the AIDS Taskforce or CAN and having a fun at the same time!
The first performance is on Monday, August 25 at 8:00 at Cassidy Theatre
(6200 Pearl Road in Parma Heights), where the $25 ticket price goes to the
AIDS Taskforce. Call the Taskforce at 216-357-2223 for tickets. In
Akron, the show will be presented on Monday and Tuesday, September 8 and 9
at 7:30, at Weathervane Community Playhouse (1301 Weathervane Lane in the
Merriman Valley). Tickets to the Akron performances are $20 to benefit
CAN, and can be purchased from the Weathervane box office at 330-836-2323.
You can also get tickets at the door at either venue.

2) Help spread the word about our benefit production! Do you run a
theatre, performance venue or school that operates during the month of
August? We'd love to have some of our flyers in your lobby (e-mail
jenniver_sparano at keybank.com and we'll get some flyers to you)! Are you a
director with a show in rehearsal in late August/early September? Why not
cancel rehearsal for the night of the benefit performance and encourage
your cast to attend the show! Do you edit or publish a newsletter, blog,
website, magazine or other communications channel? It would be great to
have the benefit mentioned in your pubication (e-mail
jenniver_sparano at keybank.com for a press release with all of the details).

3) Donate something for the "Schoolhouse Rock" raffle that we'll be
holding at each of the benefit performances! Whether it be tangible
goods, gift certificates for services, tickets for shows -- any raffle
prizes are welcome, and tax deductible! All money raised in the raffle
goes directly to the AIDS Taskforce and CAN, and the donors will be
graciously acknowledged in print and announced during the raffle drawings.
So it's a great way to help the cause and get new customers! Contact
Megan DePetro (megandepetro at gmail.com) to donate raffle prizes for the
Cleveland performance, or Pete Nervo (ovren at aol.com) to donate prizes for
the Akron raffle.

4) Participate in the Dr. John Carey Memorial AIDS Walk on October 4,
2008. Start a team, join a team, or sponsor someone who is walking! You
can learn more at www.cleveland.com/AIDSwalk.

5) Most importantly, learn more about AIDS/HIV -- get the facts, get
tested, and make sure that you protect yourself and those you love from
the spread of HIV.

You may not feel like one person can make a difference against AIDS, but
each small step that each of us takes is a step in the right direction!
