*OBERLIN SINGERS WILL WELCOME SONDHEIM WITH FREE CONCERT IN FINNEY CHAPEL AT
7:30 PM ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2008 *

*Students to sing selections from Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, Sunday in
the Park with George prior to talk with Stephen Sondheim and Frank Rich at 8
p.m.*

OBERLIN, OHIO (August 25, 2008) – As the date for Broadway legend Stephen
Sondheim's talk with Frank Rich at Oberlin College nears, Oberlin has
announced new plans to welcome the composer with a musical tribute on the
stage of Finney Chapel.

At 7:30 p.m. on September 8, 2008, eight student vocalists and one pianist
from the Conservatory and College will take the stage to present *A Little
Sondheim Music*, a program featuring some of Sondheim's best-loved songs
from *A Little Night Music*, *Sweeney Todd*, *Into the Woods*,
*Company*, *Sunday
in the Park with George*, and *Merrily We Roll Along*, directed by Associate
Professor of Theater Chris Flaharty. This "opening act" will take place
prior to the beginning of the conversation between Rich and Sondheim, still
planned for 8 p.m. Admission to the concert is limited to ticket-holders for
the 8 p.m. talk.
An extremely limited number of seats are still available for the public.
Tickets are required for this free event, and may be obtained by sending a
self-addressed stamped envelope, along with request, to Central Ticket
Service, 67 North Main Street, Oberlin, Ohio 44074, by September 1. Call CTS

availability. (Oberlin students, faculty, and staff should request tickets
in person at CTS beginning at noon on September 4th.)
