Auditions for "The Hobbit" will be held at the Ashtabula
Arts Center at 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 7th and
Monday, September 8th.

Adapted for the stage by Patricia Gray from J.R.R.
Tolkien's beloved fantasy classic, this prequel to The Lord
of the Rings, tells the tale of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins.
Asked to leave his large, roomy and very dry home in
the ground, Bilbo sets off with the wizard, Gandalf and
a dozen plus dwarves. They undertake their long and
dangerous journey in an attempt recover the bountiful
treasure of the dwarves from the evil dragon, Smaug.
It's the last thing that any sensitive hobbit would want
to do, but great benefit eventually results-not only
for Bilbo, but for all who inhabit Middle Earth.

The cast of about 25 will include many roles for both
adults and children (ages 8 and up). Everyone interested
is encouraged to audition, acting beginners as well as
stage veterans. Those auditioning should come prepared
with a one-minute monologue or a poem to read.

Performance dates will be two weekends, November 7-9 and
13-15. Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows will begin at
8 p.m. The Sunday matinee will begin at 2 p.m.
Rehearsals will begin in mid to late September.

"The Hobbit" will be directed by Douglas Anderson.
