Come and See Project STAGE in action!

Project STAGE reaches thousands of school children & families each year. We use live theatrical performances to awaken, enliven and challenge the minds of students with issues both interesting and relevant to our time. Thanks to the support of the Akron Community Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council, we are able to offer tickets to school day performances at the rate of $5 each! We hope you and your students can join us for one of this seasons' many performances.

Children of Eden, A musical by Stephen Schwartz

October 22 at 10:00 a.m.

Freely based on the story of Genesis, Children of Eden is a frank, humorous examination of the age-old conflict between parents and children. Adam and Eve, and Noah and the "Father" who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. >From the composer behind the Broadway smash Wicked comes a show that delivers a bittersweet but inspiring message that "the hardest part of love is letting go."

A Midsummer Night's Dream, A comedy by William Shakespeare

February 10, 12, 17 & 19 at 10:00 a.m.

In collaboration with adult actors from the Ohio Shakespeare Festival, Weathervane's ensemble of teen actors presents Shakespeare's romantic comedy of four young lovers and their interactions with royalty and fairies who reside in an enchanted moon-draped forest.

A Doll's House, A drama by Henrik Ibsen

April 1 at 10:00 a.m.

One of the theater's great masterworks, A Doll's House tells the story of Nora Helmer, a childlike housewife who painfully comes of age and leaves her marriage in an effort to find out who she really is. In a new adaptation by Mathew Earnest, this classic from 1879 has been transformed into a remarkably modern work.

Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, A musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice

November 25, December 2, 10 & 18 at 10:00 a.m.
(DEC. 2 ~ SOLD OUT!)

A rainbow ride through Ancient Egypt on the wings of Andrew Lloyd Webber's uplifting music and the humor of lyricist Tim Rice. This Broadway blockbuster has instant appeal for every audience with elaborately staged production numbers and a score full of hits! Have your students take a look at the musical theater experience and learn how it has impacted American theater, and performing arts around the world.

As a part of our "Project STAGE" Season (Students Through Acting Gain Education), these productions feature:

a.. Off-site visits to Weathervane performances
b.. Pre-performance lecture and discussions for your class (by request)
c.. Study guides to prepare your class for the performance
d.. Post-performance discussion immediately after the performance with the director, actors and fellow students.
We at Weathervane Playhouse dedicate ourselves to the belief that young people should have the opportunity to participate in theater both as audience members and as artists. Hope to see you here!
