Lisa Wilhelm Academy of Dance presents

Acting for Dancers

Nov 16, 2008 - Noon to 4pm
19555 Center Ridge Rd. Rocky River, OH

Two classes will be offered between Noon and 4pm that focus on dramatic technique for young dancers and teens. New and experienced dancers alike will develop essential performing skills, discover new movement techniques and explore a philosophy that treats the body as the primary dramatic instrument of the theatre. Class explores basic dramatic theory, character, status, complicity, dramatic and comic form as it is expressed through movement, musicality, concentration and basic choreography skills in this physical approach to performance for the live stage.

Work will require loose comfortable clothing or dance attire and bare feet.

Instructor: Stephen Chipps is a resident artist with the Ohio Arts Council - Arts Learning Program and has conducted arts residencies and workshops throughout Ohio and the US. He is a faculty member of The School for Mime Theatre and its Youth Mime Theatre program held each summer at Kenyon College, and co-founder of two national touring companies. He has toured in 45 states and six countries including Japan, Korea, Okinawa, Canada, Puerto Rico and China. Stephen is a student of mime and movement masters Marcel Marceau, Stefan Niedzialkowski, the Goldston & Johnson School for Mimes and the Saskatchewan Seminars for Mime and Movement Theatre.
