A Van Winkle in Time
What happens when you sleep away the best years of your life?

Miller South School for the Visual & Performing Arts presents a new
student-created play, A Van Winkle in Time. An exploration of the story
of Rip Van Winkle, the play uncovers its roots in ancient Greece, and
examines various Van Winkle-like folk tales from around the world
(China, Rome, Israel, Orkney Islands, and Germany). The Washington
Irving tale, told in story theatre style with musical accompaniment by
the Miller South Orchestra, is the centerpiece of the evening. A Van
Winkle in Time will also include samples of Van Winkle adaptations,
including the famous 19th century Joseph Jefferson version in melodrama
style, a children’s story in verse, and an operetta version. The
production concludes with the cast’s original version of a present day
Van Winkle who wakes up in the future.

Miller South drama teacher Wendy S Duke directs this student-written
production. Dan Heim conducts the orchestra. Tim "Buffo" Shuff is
technical director.

Production dates are Thursday, November 13 at 7 PM, Friday, November
14th at 9 AM, and Saturday, November 15th at 7 PM. Tickets are $15
reserved orchestra seating. General seating is $7 for adults and $5 for
students and senior citizens.
