Theater Ninjas announces third season of original work and regional
premieres
New season boasts work by Sarah Kane, Elizabeth Meriweather and
Theater Ninjas

Theater Ninjas is proud to formally announce its third theatrical
season consisting entirely of original work and regional premieres.
The season began on November 14 with “Blueprints: Works-in-Progress” a
free showcase of developing work by Mikaela Clark, Mackenzie
Clevenger, Becky Cummings, Christopher Johnston, MegLouise Dance, Greg
Vovos and Theater Ninjas. This weekend-long event resulted in rave
audience reviews and packed houses, making good on the company’s
mission to bring affordable, quality work to Cleveland audiences.

Coming up in January, Theater Ninjas will unveil an original play
mixing puppetry and physical theater called “The Beetlebug and the Bad
Worm”. A parable about friends, cruelty and bugs, the show follows the
title characters through a series of comic misadventures reminiscent
of Tom & Jerry, Laurel & Hardy and Samuel Beckett. Having already
unveiled several ‘chapters’ in the pair’s story, a full version of
“The Beetlebug and the Bad Worm” will run January 9-11 in Cleveland
Public Theatre’s Big [Box] series.

Following in February, Theater Ninjas is extremely excited to produce
the tenth USA production and Ohio premiere of Sarah Kane’s “Crave”. A
dark, lyrical masterpiece “Crave” is a moving exploration of need,
want, love, hate, loss and, ultimately, hope. Kane is one of the great
modern playwrights, and this will be the first performance of “Crave”
in Cleveland, and only the second Sarah Kane play professionally
produced in the state ever.

Wrapping up the season in April is “Heddatron”, the regional premiere
of Elizabeth Merriweather’s hilarious and bizarre play about a
pregnant housewife who is abducted by robots, taken to the Amazon and
forced to perform Henrik Ibsen’s “Hedda Gabbler” over and over again.
Intelligent, funny and surprisingly poignant, “Heddatron” includes the
only human-robot musical number on Cleveland stages this year.
