*Lights, cameras, action!  Three words that everyone understands, but rarely
gets to hear up close and in person.  Richard Fike, Stuntman, Stunt
Coordinator and Special Effects Coordinator has worked in feature film,
television, and commercial projects for over 20 years appearing with such
stars as LaBron James, Allison Eastwood, George Clooney, William Macy,
Andre' Braugher, Tom Atkins, Allisa Malano, Lou Diamond Phillips, Sam
Rockwell, R. Lee Emery, Charles Grodin, Mary Steenburgen, Sally Struthers,
Sally Kirkland, Dee Wallace Stone, and Scott Wolf to name a few.*



Stunt professionals are not daredevils.  Every risk is calculated and
planned with safety placed as the first priority. Getting the shot or
"selling the shot" for the Director is the second priority.  A Stunt
Coordinator should also save the project time, money and headaches while
satisfying the necessary liability concerns of the producers and the peace
of mind of the cast and crew.  Mr. Fike has appeared in feature films,
television, commercials, the A&E network, The Learning Channel and MTV, and
has worked on projects for Ford, Honda, Toyota, the Wu Tang Clan, Bones,
Thugs & Harmony and the Cleveland Browns NFL team.  Mr. Fike's stunt
workshop is designed to introduce to the participant the inside scoop to
making safe, but action packed stunts.   This program will encourage
audience participation with emphasis on showcasing stunt skills such as
setting up the fight scenes, stunt falls,  special effect prop weapons and
bullet hits, stage pyrotechnics and fireburns, to include the different
equipment used by stunt professionals to make things safe.



*Program Outline:*



Students will explore the responsibilities and duties of a Stunt Coordinator
and Special Effects Coordinator who must not only insure that the action
sequences of the script and Director are met, but with emphasis on
safety.  Students
will also study what is necessary to direct action and the skills needed to
provide the action.  Students will also look at the relationship of the
Stunt Coordinator with the Director the Producer, the cast and crew.



Students will read a page out of a script and discuss the specific stunt
requirements to meet the needs of the film project.  Type of stunts, safety
equipment needed, type of stunt professional and preparation time.  They
will understand how to work with and coordinate action with the support of
the Key personnel – the Producer and the Director.



Students will assist in setting up the action fight scene and determine the
appropriate camera angles for each shot.



Stunts will "block out" or walk through each scene to determine where the
stunt pro hits his or her mark and what specific hits, kicks, punches and
falls are needed to fulfill the action sequences.



Students will assist in the use of stage pyrotechnics and bullet hits and
the use of simulated blood.



Students will be instructed in the safe and proper use of stage
pyrotechnics, prop guns and simulated bullet hits.



Mr. Fike will use video footage from some of his films, commercials and live
shows to help illustrate the key points in his workshop.  At the end of the
session, the students will understand the complexities of stunt work used in
action films and live theater and gain an appreciation for the skills and
safety needed to insure a quality project.
