Actors' Summit

Presents Regional Premiere of

Joan Didion's

THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING

Actors' Summit, Hudson's Equity Professional Theater, announces the
regional premiere of Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking based on
her award winning memoire of the same name. The Year of Magical Thinking
will have a preview performance on February 12 with the official opening
night on February 13, 2009. The play will have twelve performances
through March 1, 2009. The play is performed Thursdays, Fridays, &
Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM at the Actors' Summit Theater in
downtown Hudson.

The Play

In this dramatic adaptation of her award-winning, bestselling memoir
(which Michiko Kakutani in The New York Times called "an indelible
portrait of loss and grief . . . a haunting portrait of a
four-decade-long marriage), Joan Didion transforms the story of the
sudden and unexpected loss of her husband and their only daughter into a
stunning and powerful one-woman play. First performed by Vanessa
Redgrave on Broadway in 2007, the Actors' Summit production features
co-artistic director MaryJo Alexander directed by Dorothy Silver.

"It's a classic case of the universal growing out of the particular,"
said Ms. Silver. "It's about Joan's experience, but it's about the
experience that all of us have gone through."

The Cast

MaryJo Alexander holds an MA from the University of New Orleans where
she was a member of the Resident Acting Company. At Actors' Summit she
has performed another one woman show, Shame the Devil, based on the life
of the actress Fannie Kemball. In addition to numerous roles at Actors'
Summit, MaryJo has performed locally with Ensemble Theatre, Porthouse,
Cain Park, and Stan Hywet Shakespeare. She is a member of Actors' Equity
Association.

Dorothy Silver returns to Actors' Summit where she has appeared
previously in Golda's Balcony, Arms and the Man, Merry Wives of Windsor,
and Laughter in Three Languages - credits she shares with her husband,
Reuben. She has performed in many area theaters, and her directing
credits also range widely, including New York City's American Place
Theatre. Past long-term theater assignments include Resident Guest
Director of Karamu Theatre and Direction of Cleveland Jewish Community
Center Theatre. She has shared many theatre achievement awards with her
husband, Reuben, and they continue to perform their dramatic reading
programs throughout this country and abroad. In May, she and Reuben will
return to the Actors' Summit stage with a new edition of Laughter in
Three Languages.
