Kent State Stark Presents a Blues Concert to Celebrate Black History Month

(Jackson Township, OH - February 17, 2009) Kent State University Stark proudly presents Traditional Blues with Wallace Coleman to commemorate February as Black History Month. The concert will take place on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Main Hall Auditorium, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

Coleman, the 10-year veteran of the great Robert Lockwood Jr. Band, formed the Wallace Coleman Band in 1996. Four years later, he established his own record label, Pinto Blues Music. Since then, he has released four CDs, including Repossession Blues with UK bluesman Dave Thomas. Coleman has also won a Living Blues Award for Outstanding Harmonica and been named an Ohio Heritage Fellow. His performance on the harmonica embodies an American art form that has all but disappeared from the African American music landscape and is certain to captivate blues lovers of all ages.

For the performance at Kent State Stark, Coleman will play the harmonica and lead vocals. Joining him on stage will be Dean Cohen and Kevin Okey on guitar; George Lee on bass; Rockin' Robin Montgomery on piano; and Scott Flowers on drums.
